I Got You vs. Message to My Girl methinks.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 12 March 2010 07:29 (fifteen years ago)

Going for "Poor Boy", just ahead of "I Hope I Never".

Btw. there are two different compilations with Split Enz, this 80s centric one, and a more 70s centric one. I guess it depends what era of the band's history you prefer, but I deem this one the superior one.

Six months in a leaky boat by a long way.

I had a massive phase of buying their albums a few years ago. I sold quite a few though, True Colours, Time & Tide and Corroboree are the only ones I kept.

Sometimes I wonder if "One Step Ahead" is Neil Finn's best song.

The Magnificent Colin Firth (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 12 March 2010 14:00 (fifteen years ago)

Looks like y'all need to go back and revisit yer Split Enz, cause clearly the best thing they ever did is the glorious History Never Repeats. One of the best songs evah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kornrulez6969, Friday, 12 March 2010 14:19 (fifteen years ago)

That one too. Eddie Vedder has a nice cover (Pearl Jam have also done "I See Red").

Does anybody remember the early days of MTV when they would play Split Enz videos round the clock? Seriously, they were on heavy rotation for the first year or two of MTV, pre-Thriller.

Loved the superbly paranoid "I Got You" to pieces, barely remember "Leaky Boat" (only heard it 5-7 times, tops), and that's the sum total of my knowledge.

If I'd noticed this poll in time I might have taken "I Got You" over the top, though "Six Months in a Leaky Boat" is still pretty awesome

Sean Carruthers, Friday, 19 March 2010 13:11 (fifteen years ago)

Very strange that "Pioneer" is here (since it's essentially a lead-in to "Six Months...") but not "Hard Act to Follow". Wasn't that one of their singles?
