9...I think. Where did Geir say this?

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 12 March 2010 10:07 (fifteen years ago)

I am officially 50% insufferable music snob! That's about right, actually.

There's Always Been A Dance Element To (Masonic Boom), Friday, 12 March 2010 10:10 (fifteen years ago)

Of those, I've just got Discrete Music. I used to have Neu!, but didn't like it.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Friday, 12 March 2010 10:13 (fifteen years ago)

Eight. Nine counting the Schoenberg, but classical music is actually my wife's stuff.

Marco Damiani, Friday, 12 March 2010 10:14 (fifteen years ago)

I've got eight.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 12 March 2010 10:17 (fifteen years ago)

Out of these, I only own Trout Mask Replica, and that's because I inherited the vinyl from my dad's dead hipster cousin. Would never had bought if myself, I don't care about that sort of music.

Tuomas, Friday, 12 March 2010 10:20 (fifteen years ago)

Incidentally, if anyone's interested in buying/trading that album on vinyl, I'd be happy to get rid of it.

Tuomas, Friday, 12 March 2010 10:21 (fifteen years ago)

I have four.

Obv, TMR is one of them, sorry Tuomas.

Mark G, Friday, 12 March 2010 10:22 (fifteen years ago)

The only one I properly own is Trout Mask Replica. I've got Discreet Music on cassette, and the Neu! album on my iPhone (on an offline Spotify playlist). Other than attending a performance of In C, I've never heard the rest.

mike t-diva, Friday, 12 March 2010 10:37 (fifteen years ago)

just the one : miles davis
and that only happened last year

mark e, Friday, 12 March 2010 10:43 (fifteen years ago)

None of these, except burned copies of a couple of them.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Friday, 12 March 2010 10:44 (fifteen years ago)

i've listened to/once had a dubbed cassette of the VU, should I vote that I own one or own none?

louis do not fuck achewood (acoleuthic), Friday, 12 March 2010 11:24 (fifteen years ago)

Have owned all of them except Zappa/ Glass/ Miles - currently have 5: TMR, WL/WH, Neu, Stockhausen, Schoenberg Would never own Zappa, would like to get OTC.

On the other 'current' music snob thread (the pick 12 thread)

Mark G, Friday, 12 March 2010 11:48 (fifteen years ago)

i've got four of these but only really listen to the aphex one.

dog latin, Friday, 12 March 2010 11:53 (fifteen years ago)

own 3 of them, would consider some of the rest

sonderangerbot, Friday, 12 March 2010 12:04 (fifteen years ago)

own none, heard 2

cozen, Friday, 12 March 2010 12:05 (fifteen years ago)

eight. a disappointingly low score.

m the g, Friday, 12 March 2010 12:16 (fifteen years ago)

VU, Neu!, Captain Beefheart, that's it.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 12 March 2010 12:20 (fifteen years ago)

i've got 50% - glass half full half empty, etc.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Friday, 12 March 2010 14:27 (fifteen years ago)

I own three of them but decided to go with 50/50 as a compromise as I know and like almost all of them and own variant albums by most of the artists/have mp3s of several more. I probably should have just voted three, though. Sorry for corrupting the science here.

(For the record, the only artist I don't like is Zappa.)

emil.y, Friday, 12 March 2010 14:31 (fifteen years ago)

I have three and I hate music.

seandalai, Friday, 12 March 2010 14:49 (fifteen years ago)

vu.

trying to think of the most insufferable music snob-esque hiphop record you could get- the complete metal fingers records maybe?

There's Always Been A Prance Element To (a hoy hoy), Friday, 12 March 2010 14:52 (fifteen years ago)

My three are Miles, Neu!, and VU. Own other Eno, but not that one. Used to own some Zappa and that Beefheart, but those were sold in a purge at some point.

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 12 March 2010 14:55 (fifteen years ago)

9. Y'all are makin' me feel real snobby. I feel like that list aims a little too much towards people who like a specific style (drone and experimental). Like anyone who likes Neu! probably likes Glass and Riley and it's not much of a jump from there to include Aphex, Stockhausen, Eno and VU.

Fetchboy, Friday, 12 March 2010 14:58 (fifteen years ago)

I've got:

Miles Davis: On The Corner
Eno: Discreet Music
Velvet Underground: White Light White Heat
Aphex Twin: Analogue Bubblebath 3. (way lol at this; it's good but not that great)
Neu! : Neu!

DISASTÜR ZÜN RHINE (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 12 March 2010 15:26 (fifteen years ago)

I am not the biggest Zappa fan (nor the biggest hater) but is he really a music snobs' favorite?

Earth Dye (u s steel), Friday, 12 March 2010 15:29 (fifteen years ago)

7, but i have other albums by most of those artists if i don't own the one on the list. and i probably have good reasons.

"I don't have Terry Riley In C, but I do have the Acid Mothers Temple version."

shocker... gonna have to track that down.

zingzing, Friday, 12 March 2010 15:30 (fifteen years ago)

I can believe scaruffi's old neighbour was a perfect triangle.

ogmor, Friday, 12 March 2010 15:31 (fifteen years ago)

I've only got the Beefheart.

o. nate, Friday, 12 March 2010 15:47 (fifteen years ago)

I'm such a gigantic music snob that I don't own any of these albums and furthermore feel that those who do are timewasting cretins.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 12 March 2010 15:47 (fifteen years ago)

Miles Davis: On The Corner
Captain Beefheart: Trout Mask Replica
Eno: Discreet Music

Only two for me - Velvets & Neu! Used to have On the Corner, have a rip of Trout Mask but I never really 'got it' so never listen to it.

Bill E, Thursday, 18 March 2010 00:16 (fifteen years ago)

6 on vinyl, most of the others on mp3. never heard the Schönberg before though, going to track it down now.

aztec gamera (zappi), Thursday, 18 March 2010 00:18 (fifteen years ago)

Miles Davis: On The Corner - Got, love
Captain Beefheart: Trout Mask Replica - Got, love
Eno: Discreet Music - Don't got, but mostly out of laziness
Velvet Underground: White Light White Heat - Got, love
Arnold Schönberg: Suite Opus 29 - never heard
Aphex Twin: Analogue Bubblebath 3. - I don't listen to that techno garbage
The Soft Machine 4 - I think I had this at some point but didn't keep it. kinda boring
Karlheiz Stockhausen: Kontakte - Don't have this/never heard. I do have C.E. #18: Sternklangg tho and that is pretty fun
Neu! : Neu! - lost my copy unfortunately, but love it
Frank Zappa: Lumpy Gravy - I don't listen to that comedy-prog garbage
Terry Riley: In C - never heard. would probably listen tho, since I've heard some of Riley's other stuff and liked it (Church of Anthrax, w/Cale I think...?)
Philip Glass: Einstein On The Beach - not interested.

famous for hating everything (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 18 March 2010 00:20 (fifteen years ago)

FWIW, don't have any Schoenberg (an oversight on my part, no slight on Arnie), don't have the Aphex Twin one (but no objections to it if I saw it going cheap somewhere), not really interested in the Philip Glass

The Oort Locker (Tom D.), Thursday, 18 March 2010 10:48 (fifteen years ago)

Miles Davis: On The Corner NO
Captain Beefheart: Trout Mask Replica NO BUT I DO HAVE THEIR DEBUT

nice

nakhchivan, Thursday, 18 March 2010 13:57 (fifteen years ago)

The Schoenberg is a substantial work and is quite nice but I've never seen anyone single it out before, especially considering the importance of Einstein and In C in their composers' respective oeuvres.

the schoenberg selection is somewhat awry yes, unless yr hypothetical menopausal avant prog fuck happens to be rly into second viennese school minor classics, also the afx choice not very likely i'd have thought

nakhchivan, Thursday, 18 March 2010 14:43 (fifteen years ago)

also the afx choice not very likely i'd have thought

yeah... i mean it's a while since i was paying attention, but i don't remember being told that BUBBLEBATH THREE was the one to get. whereas "trout mask replica" is relatively mnstrm.

lipster grifter (history mayne), Thursday, 18 March 2010 14:47 (fifteen years ago)

Well, Geir's original list had the "Richard D James" album, but I figureed it was more likely to be the type of thing people would get to see "what the fuss was about" then not play it again ever (maybe unfair, I don't have it), and DogLatin's substitution seemed more likely of a purchase 'on purpose'.

though i don't think WL/WH, neu! or In C are terribly snobby records and I really haven't listened to the others thoroughly, just grabbed them on the recs of others. want that discreet music

I can see where you're coming from. On the other hand, I would argue that "Analogue Bubblebath" is musically probably more accessible than "Richard D. James Album", which is perhaps the weirdest and strangest thing he has ever done.
