Btw. this is ILM, not ILE, so we're speaking music obv. :)

As for me, it was long a call between 2002 and 2005, but then, 2009turned out to be a marvellous music year, actually IMO probably the best since the mid 80s. Particularly within prog and electronic pop, 2009 was a wonderful year. Plus it was also an unusually strong year for Norwegian music. So 2009 it is.

200Suggest Ban

abanana, Sunday, 14 March 2010 01:58 (fifteen years ago)

2007 for me; it had loads of my favorite albums. In Rainbows, From Here We Go Sublime, Mirrored, Boxer, Person Pitch, Ga Ga..., Kala, Sound of Silver, Random Spirit Lover, and more.

monster_xero, Sunday, 14 March 2010 03:28 (fifteen years ago)

For me it's 2003. War All The Time, Elephant, Fever to Tell, The Black Album, Electric Version, Think Tank, A Mark A Mission A Brand A Scar, Give Up, You Are Free, Deja Entendu, In Da Club, Lose Yourself...

Mordy, Sunday, 14 March 2010 03:34 (fifteen years ago)

i think we've done this before

hitler runoff (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 03:36 (fifteen years ago)

maybe. i knew my answer right away, so i must've thought about it at some point in the past. maybe on another thread.

Mordy, Sunday, 14 March 2010 03:38 (fifteen years ago)

i think i might vote for 2005 but i have a poor memory when it comes to these things

hitler runoff (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 03:45 (fifteen years ago)

after reviewing some lists real quick i feel good about 2005 -- monster year for pop singles

hitler runoff (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 14 March 2010 03:48 (fifteen years ago)

06 is major sleeper pick imo

ciderpress, Sunday, 14 March 2010 04:49 (fifteen years ago)

2005, i think.

Agreed. I don't do too well keeping tracks of singles though. I think I'd have to say 05 was better for singles (and actually I'm thinking here of reggaeton) but 06 still had some singles from that wave of activity, plus it was an all around outstanding year for albums (for the particular mix of things that interest me, which is probably mostly irrelevant to others).

_Rudipherous_, Sunday, 14 March 2010 06:26 (fifteen years ago)

2001: Daft Punk, Ms Dynamite and lots of UK garage generally, Wu-Tang Clan, Aaliyah, Basement Jaxx, Jay-Z, Mystikal, Missy Elliot, Kylie Minogue, Kompakt, Elephant Man, Foxy Brown...

Tim F, Sunday, 14 March 2010 09:39 (fifteen years ago)

2004, 2005, 2007, and 2009 all hold my affection still.

2003: R&B singles from that year were unstoppable

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Sunday, 14 March 2010 10:05 (fifteen years ago)

We've made this poll before.

Moka, Sunday, 14 March 2010 10:06 (fifteen years ago)

Yep. Here it is:

best year this decade

Moka, Sunday, 14 March 2010 10:08 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah but before the decade was over.

_Rudipherous_, Sunday, 14 March 2010 10:09 (fifteen years ago)

2001 because of Daft Punk-Avalanches-Jaxx.

Those examples listed in various posts here almost make it seem like 2001 was a bad year, which it wasn't. Probably the fourth best year of the noughties, after 2009, 2002 and 2001. But for completely different reasons than the ones mentioned in this thread. :)

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 01:10 (fifteen years ago)

I voted for 2005. Antony & the Johnsons, Saint Etienne, My Morning jacket, Annie, Go-Betweens, LCD Soundsystem, Broadcast, Junior Senior, Rachel Stevens, Sufjan Stevens, Girls Aloud, Common, Maximo Park, Arcade Fire, Fischerspooner, Ladytron, Final Fantasy, Erasure, Vitalic, Patrick Wolf, Elbow, Go-Kart Mozart, Kate Bush and Art Brut's debut which was easily my favourite album of the decade.

Geir, If 2001 is in your top 3 years of the decade and also at number 4 doesn't that mean it would win overall?

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 16 March 2010 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

haven't fully excavated the first half of the decade yet, but 2008 sucked the worst since i've been paying attention.

Geir, If 2001 is in your top 3 years of the decade and also at number 4 doesn't that mean it would win overall?

Yes. But I meant to write after 2009, 2002 and 2005. :)

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 01:24 (fifteen years ago)

2005 IMO had the best top three. Depeche Mode, Coldplay and McCartney. All among the best albums of the entire decade.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 01:25 (fifteen years ago)

I'm sure we did this poll not long ago.

dog latin, Wednesday, 17 March 2010 10:07 (fifteen years ago)

We should poll the decade day by day.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 17 March 2010 10:12 (fifteen years ago)

Looking forward to the hour by hour poll myself.

Cunga, Wednesday, 17 March 2010 11:45 (fifteen years ago)

i remember 2000 sucking a LOT, and then 2001 making up for it. is that just me?

max arrrrrgh, Wednesday, 17 March 2010 22:30 (fifteen years ago)

XP and XXP: Claims could easily be made that grouping music by year is pretty much pointless, but it's still what critics and a lot of music geeks do.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 23:39 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Sunday, 21 March 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

2001 best year for albums (2002 worst)

2003 best year for hit singles (2009 worst)

grady "cougar" mellencamp (The Reverend), Sunday, 21 March 2010 00:31 (fifteen years ago)

that's about right for me too

some dude, Sunday, 21 March 2010 00:36 (fifteen years ago)

I don't care all that much about hit singles anymore, but still see 2009 as the best year for hit singles because it sounded more like the early 80s than anything else did.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Sunday, 21 March 2010 01:14 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

2000

The year the greatest album of all time came out.

Sab, Monday, 22 March 2010 00:14 (fifteen years ago)

Comparing this album to other albums is like comparing an aquarium to blue construction paper

Sab, Monday, 22 March 2010 00:15 (fifteen years ago)

http://rateyourmusic.com/customchart?page=1&chart_type=top&type=album&year=2000&genre_include=1&genres=&include=both&origin_countries=&limit=none&countries=

I had forgotten what came out in 2000 , but it wasnt a bad year really. People didn't vote 2000 just because Kid A came out, did they?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 22 March 2010 00:16 (fifteen years ago)

was 2000 a great year for hiphop?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 22 March 2010 00:18 (fifteen years ago)

best year this decade

hmmm...

dog latin, Monday, 22 March 2010 01:09 (fifteen years ago)

So, what was the best year of the noughties?

dog latin, Monday, 22 March 2010 01:10 (fifteen years ago)

2006 and 2008 why were they so bad and hated?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 22 March 2010 01:12 (fifteen years ago)

Too many nineties fans here. 2000 was of course the worst year of the 00s because it was more like the 90s than anything later on.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Monday, 22 March 2010 01:52 (fifteen years ago)

It is interesting how a lot of people voted for 2000 now, but hardly anyone two years ago though.....

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Monday, 22 March 2010 01:53 (fifteen years ago)

2001, for me. Is This It and White Blood Cells were the first records I went out and bought by myself, and were, at the time, so perfect and cutting edge to me. It was only later that I found The Microphones, but The Glow pt. 2 is my favorite album. It's a Wonderful Life is close behind. Can't forget Amnesiac, either.

AlexPh, Monday, 22 March 2010 04:03 (fifteen years ago)

Too many nineties fans here.

too many you

mdskltr (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2010 12:39 (fifteen years ago)
