Yeah, I posted it on another thread. I’m torn, I get it and think it’s probably the only path forward, but I think $10 a month is a big ask.

I don’t know the answer, and no shade at AD in the least, but honestly not liking the glimpse into the future of the internet being like a collection of streaming services where you gotta choose which ones you can afford to subscribe to.

as an unemployed person, i can't really justify the cost -- especially when everything they post will make me want to spend money. but i can imagine subscribing in an ideal glorious future

I keep going to Pitchfork out of muscle memory but then I realize I can't read anything

There are some good substacks, I follow Philip Sherburne's and Shawn Reynaldo's for electronic stuff, a few others for jazz, there must be some good writers doing the substack thing for other genres.

I'm kinda wondering how you even find them these days. my blog used to get a lot of Google traffic (as the albums I wrote about often weren't written about much elsewhere) but that's dropped off a cliff lately as the entire search page is now taken up by AI results (which I have seen integrate some of my writing, those bastards) and retailers. I miss the days when you could search for albums and find well written blogposts about them, maybe that still exists and I just don't know it

I still use a blogspot for my dc area concert calendar and yeah, google isn’t helpful anymore.
