"what's luv?" along with "we thuggin" are definitely a few of the peaks of early decade thugs-going-pop rap (see also ja & fab)

irv gotti was a sick producer -- "what's luv?" beat is so great

love "Girlfriend" and "U Don't Have To Call," but i think i gotta go with "More Than A Woman," on some days my favorite Aaliyah song ever

Kinda ehhhh about this month. I wouldn't say I unabashedly love any more than my top two, but like a few others well enough. Gotta vote "Roc the Mic" as Just Blaze was so totally dropping fire at that point and it's the first place I heard Philly Freezer. Top 5:

"Girlfriend" is my favorite N'Sync single, "Escape" my favorite Enrique I song, "More Than a Woman" is NOT my favorite Aaliyah. Went with Usher.

what an amazing month. tweet, luda, aaliyah, beanie sigel, usher and the various incarnations of ashanti all in w/a shout (though curiously none are my actual favourite moments from any of these artists); "more than a woman" is tempting but i think i'll throw a vote to either "foolish" or "what's luv?"

I can't stand "Foolish."

this reminds me that I really really really really REALLY hate Ashanti, to the point where I hope someone creates a time machine and goes back in time to prevent her from recording these songs and being nigh-inescapable during this time period

i actually remember being sorta-irritated by all the identical ashanti songs at the time but these days i get a real pavlovian "summer's here!" response to them

"rain on me" and "voodoo" were even better than any of her big singles imo

"Rain On Me" was oppressively ubiquitous in the US

Non-bitchy question: what is the point of these polls? I'm missing the significance of a Billboard new entry. Is it to focus on the songs that didn't hit the top ten and/or impress themselves on a mass consciousness? Or is it to get a general feel for the time? Both? Neither?
