Remedios Silva Pisa - NacĂ en Alamo (The whole soundtrack from the film 'Vengo' might be up your alley, this is the centerpiece song)

gonzo84d, you don't give us much to go on, so I don't know if you already realize this, but that song is some sort of flamenco (probably very watered down), so you could look for flamenco, maybe "nuevo flamenco" and "rumba flamenco," though that's still a really wide net to be casting. I don't know much about flamenco of any sort, so I'm not going to make any recommendations.
I'm thinking you might like bolero too (just a few examples):

Maybe there would be some salsa that you would like as well? These may be more dramatic than melodramatic (sorry sound not too good--just grabbing things quickly):

This probably sounds like a put-down of the song, but it's not. I just suspect that flamenco purists would think of it that way. Speaking for myself, I liked the song you linked to.)

yeah the watered down flamenco was sort of what i was thinking -- something that a newcomer would appreciate but that hardcore/old time flamenco lovers might not. I liked the La Lupe, thanks! in general i think i want even MORE melodrama... heart-achy/wistful kind of ballads with sparser instrumentation. i suppose i'm sort of describing a female jeff buckley kind of thing but transposed to flamenco (which sounds like the worst idea for music ever but we'll see where it goes)

Might want to check other songs on Pedro Almodovar's soundtracks. Piensa en Mi by Luz Casal is a good melodramatic delivery of a traditional mexican song.
And um... well Lhasa de Sela and Chavela Vargas might be just up your alley as well. The album 'La Llorona' by Lhasa has some really raw moments.

This is a good suggestion, I think.
