And im sure there's plenty of happy hardcore cover versions of 90s songs. So post all suggestions of good or bad cover versions that you want or could see happening. And post youtubes for those that already exist.

Radiohead - Creep must be a candidate for both idol and a europop revival.
Can anyone remember who did the dance cover version of Zombie by the Cranberries that was always on The Box back in the day?

If Dan hasn't heard that before I look forward to his mind being blown.

Well maybe not American Idol or Europop, but I feel Sheryl Crow's "Everyday is a Winding Road" will eventually get sampled during the inevitable Big Beat revival. The part around the 2:40 mark alway made me think of Fatboy Slim.

Not sure what you mean by "shitty europop", sounds kinda loaded.

I can well imagine some Pop Idol act covering this one:

Des'ree - You Gotta Be

Olivier Messiaen Control (Paul in Santa Cruz), Saturday, 20 March 2010 21:58 (fifteen years ago)

And you want to hear it covered by Brokencyde feat Taylor Swift?

Bittersweet Symphony for Idol, Supergrass's Alright for DJ Sammy reworking

or a cover of tricky's cover of Black Steel

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 20 March 2010 22:35 (fifteen years ago)

I dread Leona Lewis' cover of Arms Wide Open by Creed.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 20 March 2010 22:36 (fifteen years ago)

Someone should go back in time and convince Chris Daughtry (while he was on American Idol) to cover Creed's "Higher" and subsequently BLOW THE MINDS OF OUR FUTURE SELVES.

(Did that cover happen already?)

larry_fitzmaurice, Sunday, 21 March 2010 01:28 (fifteen years ago)

Since Creed weren't that big over here I cant see any big cover versions taking off in the UK, unless it becomes a big song on xfactor.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 21 March 2010 04:46 (fifteen years ago)

I don't watch the show guys so please tell me if these have been sung before.

Blessid Union of Souls--"I Believe"
Lisa Loeb--"Stay"
Real McCoy--"another night" (ok I'm only kinda half-serious on this one)
Sophie B. Hawkins--"Damn, I Wish I was Your Lover"

Cattle Grind, Sunday, 21 March 2010 13:56 (fifteen years ago)

I could totally see a Europhoric house cover of 'Lithium'

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 21 March 2010 14:10 (fifteen years ago)

I'm fairly sure I've posted this before but there was something about 'Fuck and Run' by Liz Phair that whenever I listened to it got me imagining it w/ a really pumping happy hardcore / hard trance backing

Markelby's Greasy Spoon (DJ Mencap), Sunday, 21 March 2010 14:15 (fifteen years ago)

Pavement-Summer Babe

micheline, Sunday, 21 March 2010 14:24 (fifteen years ago)

I was gonna say it's not well known enough to get covered but There She Goes by The La's got a horrid cover version that was a smash hit around the world so you never know.

I always thought A Design For Life by the Manic Street Preachers would work well on a show like this. Big, soaring chorus, vaguely spiritual lyrics...it'd be perfect. Anybody have Simon's #?

big time (HI DERE), Monday, 22 March 2010 15:22 (fifteen years ago)

Thankyou, this thread, for posting not just What's Up but Zombie in their full Euro-pop horror. I remember hearing them when I worked at Mixmag but haven't heard them since and am gratified to discover that they are every bit as ghastly as I remembered.

What's Up would be a shoo-in: "Trying to get up that great big hill of hope" That's American Idol gold.

gotanynewsstory? (Dorianlynskey), Monday, 22 March 2010 15:28 (fifteen years ago)

We got the "What's Up?" Eurohouse remix but that "Zombie" cover was never played over here.

big time (HI DERE), Monday, 22 March 2010 15:31 (fifteen years ago)

It's amazing, isn't it? It's like someone set them a challenge: "Here's one of the shrillest, crassest, most idiotic records ever made. £1000 says you can't make it even shriller, crasser and more idiotic." "You're on!"

gotanynewsstory? (Dorianlynskey), Monday, 22 March 2010 15:36 (fifteen years ago)

Btw, kornrulez6969, if you think A Design for Life's lyrics are "vaguely spiritual", you may be missing something. They're all about working-class identity.

gotanynewsstory? (Dorianlynskey), Monday, 22 March 2010 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah this type of record really relies on indignant indie-ists going "they just don't UNDERSTAND it!" so A Design For Life is perfect in that regard.

Matt DC, Monday, 22 March 2010 16:16 (fifteen years ago)

Also there are no bad songs that aren't improved by a hyperactive Eurobosh version and Zombie is no exception.

I would like to hear Scooter tackling I Don't Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith.

Matt DC, Monday, 22 March 2010 16:20 (fifteen years ago)

Ha ha. Guilty.

About time somebody manned up and dropped this truth bomb

Benday Bully (Noodle Vague), Monday, 22 March 2010 16:21 (fifteen years ago)

The American Idol song is surely What If God Was One Of Us or whatever it's called by Joan Osborne.

Matt DC, Monday, 22 March 2010 16:27 (fifteen years ago)

Dan, Did it blow your mind?

I don't know if "blow" is quite right; "broke" comes closer.

big time (HI DERE), Monday, 22 March 2010 16:43 (fifteen years ago)

I can see Tuomas liking it.

My fave bit is where she sings "the same old tings" in her italian or whatever it is accent.
