"B.O.B." is best but I'm kind of bored of it so voting for "Humble Mumble"

grady "cougar" mellencamp (The Reverend), Sunday, 21 March 2010 10:28 (fifteen years ago)

Just can't be amazed.

bob v. snappin and trappin

he might have even have gone in. (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 21 March 2010 11:32 (fifteen years ago)

Let's be honest, the correct answer is B.O.B.

One of the best Hip-Hop tracks of all time.

relisten to snappin and trappin dude.

he might have even have gone in. (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 21 March 2010 13:08 (fifteen years ago)

Love "Humble Mumble" and hope Badu will include it in a future compilation.

The Magnificent Colin Firth (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 21 March 2010 13:36 (fifteen years ago)

Killer Kill From Adamsville is kinda beastlike on "Snappin' and Trappin'"

grady "cougar" mellencamp (The Reverend), Sunday, 21 March 2010 13:40 (fifteen years ago)

He might even have gone in.

grady "cougar" mellencamp (The Reverend), Sunday, 21 March 2010 13:42 (fifteen years ago)

It's a toss-up for me between "Gasoline Dreams" and B.O.B. I love the party-techno esque beat on the latter, but the pseudo-Hendrixian riff plus some crazy weird flow from Big Boi make that one a keeper.

Really though there aren't many bad tracks on this one.

Cattle Grind, Sunday, 21 March 2010 13:51 (fifteen years ago)

If ever a poll called for two votes, this is it.
Its B.O.B, but I kinda hate myself for not voting Ms. Jackson.

red velvet bcz nobody else will vote for it

symsymsym, Monday, 22 March 2010 01:23 (fifteen years ago)

Obv. there are some undisputed classics on here, but I'm gonna go with the one I listen to the most because the beat is INSANELY F***ING GOOD ... Snappin' & Trappin'. It's pretty irrelevant, lyrically speaking, especially compared to some of the other standouts, but damn, if it's not the best beat I've ever danced to!

Red Velvet is also sadly overlooked in many discussions of this album. Incredible beat AND good lyrics.

poll should have been "best song that isn't B.O.B"

one of the jones boys (sic), Tuesday, 23 March 2010 22:23 (fifteen years ago)

no one's voting for "so fresh, so clean"

k3vin k., Tuesday, 23 March 2010 23:18 (fifteen years ago)

i did. B.O.B. is way too manic for me.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 23 March 2010 23:59 (fifteen years ago)

my real favorite is "so fresh, so clean" because i love the keyboard riff so much -- but i voted for "we luv deez hoez"

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 24 March 2010 00:20 (fifteen years ago)

it's kind of funny going back to this album - when it dropped, so fresh and so clean & ms. jackson were pretty big hits at the same time around where I lived, so I took the two to be like ur-Outkast or proto-Outkast - and now revisiting those songs after going through the first three for the other polls, I realize how much they are in fact just an actual continuation of the themes they were exploring on the first three.

No Challop but I reckon "Gasoline Dreams" does "B.O.B" better than "B.O.B"

Could never get bored of "B.O.B."

maciej recognizing trill, Thursday, 25 March 2010 14:43 (fifteen years ago)

Going with "So Fresh, So Clean" - one of those songs that feels like someone just slid into the sound of perfection - it's not burdened by the high-mindedness of Ms. Jackson, and its slick n' slide, glassy quality couldn't be further from the hard working, word slinging barrage of palaver that is "B.O.B." It's also one of those songs that evoke its time for me in the best possible way.

MumblestheRevelator, Thursday, 25 March 2010 17:10 (fifteen years ago)

i wish i had voted for humble mumble

J0rdan S., Thursday, 25 March 2010 17:12 (fifteen years ago)

i am voting for it--listened to it this morning and just can't get over the rhythm of the hook

call all destroyer, Thursday, 25 March 2010 17:14 (fifteen years ago)

kinda impossible but went with I'll Call Before I Come which is certainly the most FUN song on here, even tho it is by no means the most adventurous or anything.

honestly, there's loads of good stuff on here, but B.O.B. might be my fave outkast song, period.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Sunday, 28 March 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

Feels lame going for the hit but Ms Jackson because of the backward drums, Andre's hook, the sheer originality of the subject matter (because hip hop usually means never having to say you're sorry), and most of all the contrasting takes on the same theme. The high-mindedness that Mumbles complains about is completely undercut by Bog Boi's verses, in which Ms Jackson is clearly a vindictive, litigious pain in the ass. It's the perfect demonstration of why Andre and Big Boi are never quite as compelling individually as they are together.

I like the creepiness of "So Fresh So Clean".

Band Fag X (u s steel), Monday, 29 March 2010 11:56 (fifteen years ago)

Are there lots of apologetic hip hop tracks I'm forgetting? Surely a bullish "no regrets" stance is the norm?

gotanynewsstory? (Dorianlynskey), Monday, 29 March 2010 11:58 (fifteen years ago)

I also wanted to add this is a difficult album, most of the songs don't go down easy.

Band Fag X (u s steel), Monday, 29 March 2010 12:02 (fifteen years ago)

"B.O.B." is best but I'm kind of bored of it so voting for "Humble Mumble"
