The crass version as well for the reasons mentioned above.

I liked it better when it was called Stupid Version.

The Pretentious Version could and should have been much more intense.

Wow! I thought everyone in general liked the Pretentious one more. Pretty OTM about it being one of the top tracks of the past decade.

But that sort of goes without saying, doesn't it? It feels like saying "chocolate tastes good"

Insane version...of Cavern somewhere there if I remember right.

Phish and the Dead were a pretty big deal for me when I was 15. I can't listen to either now, but I like to think they steered me in the right direction.

is there a way to get hold of a separate version of that "shame on you" track that kicks off 45:33?

someone recently said that lcd sdsys's "yeah (pretentious mix)" sounds like phish, circa fall 97. that is a hilariously accurate description. my first thoughts about that track were actually "boy, this sounds a little like that band lake trout".

WHOA, I used to be huge into Phish when I was 15 too and never realized how much Pretentious does sound like them. Shit, you guys remember the 12/06/97 Set II Tweezer jam?? Ohhhhh man.

i put this one while driving from north carolina to georgia... we had decided to go very late at night, so we needed some good loud music to keep us awake. after it was done, the girl driving said "i could drive to mars on that song."

ahem. the crass version, that is.

i like that the crass version has some sloppy/terrible keyboard playing

never listen to the pretentious version...barely remember what it sounds like

it's like: in medias res, clavs and disco 16ths on the hi-hat, but mostly weak casio-y synth textures until around midway Murphy goes "yowwww" and then some junkyard percussion comes in and then it goes "flying saucer" with the synths (a little organic acid) and then the casio comes in again and it's back to where you started. basic studio jam released to appease the hungry masses

I have a vague memory of a cartoon "beatnik" band that showed up on The Flintstones (or the Jetsons, or some show like that) that did a song that was nothing but droll "yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah"'s. Pretty sure James Murphy saw this as well. Anybody else?
