Have been really feeling this guy's work lately and doesn't appear to be a dedicated thread. Spurred by hearing the s/t Steve Kuhn record where he produced, have since checked out some of his bossa-influenced work and Point of Departure. And dude also produced the Wendy & Bonnie LP.
Plus has one of the weirder untimely demise stories out there: accidental(?) methadone poisoning via Terry Southern "Candy" co-writer Mason Hoffenberg
Other suggestions?

Anita O'Day talks about him, his drug use and his death in the excellent biopic Anita O'Day: Portrait of a Jazz Singer.

His version of "Bloop Bleep" on "The In Sound" is the epitome of hipster chic. Stereolab were fans and paid homage to that album covers:

Picked this one up this weekend which is tasty overall but particularly has some v. nice and slightly askew lennon/mccartney arrangements.

speaking of lena horne, her album on buddha, nature's baby, is really good. very definite this-is-lena-being-funky-in-the-70's action. has some great stuff on it. i have the gabor/lena album somewhere, but i never play it. gary AND gabor albums from the 60's always have worthwhile stuff on them. they're just enjoyable listens.

The one with Bill Evans and Jim Hall is great.

This is neat because I really liked the Eye Of The Devil film score and knew nothing else about the guy. Is any of his other stuff along those lines?

Man "America the Beautiful" is so great. It's like a more axelrod-y or maybe even bacharach-y "black saint and the sinner lady."
