i do sometimes get this little niggle that they should take it one step further - listening to a fantastic song like "seasun" it's like there's never really a release. i want a release!! i am too picky maybe.
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 20:26 (fifteen years ago)
then again i find myself listening a lot to the aston shuffle remix of "they're killing it" so my perspective on buildup and release may be somewhat skewed
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 20:27 (fifteen years ago)
The John Talabot remix of Seasun is AMAZING, pure Balearic house-pop loveliness. It might also give you the release you're looking for. I really want to check out the originals after seeing this thread.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 20:54 (fifteen years ago)
oh, hey. i sort of randomly came across them, have been following one/more of the band members' music blog and then noticed they've been getting press.
― fauxmarc, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 20:58 (fifteen years ago)
thats aphex twin in the first seconds of seasun, no?
― for me to chilt on (bnw), Tuesday, 23 March 2010 22:11 (fifteen years ago)
"stay close" is EXCELLENT
there's something beautiful and assured in the singing that i like
"no release" may be the wrong way to put it - "ALL release" poss closer to the mark!
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 25 March 2010 10:43 (fifteen years ago)
agree with Matt on the Talabot remix - it's my favorite thing of theirs. also a fan of their remix of Lemonade's "Big Weekend". and agree with Tracer - i'm totally drawn to all their songs but keep wanting them to be something they aren't quite while i'm listening to them...
― SSS, Thursday, 25 March 2010 14:05 (fifteen years ago)
Seasun is lovely, but god DAMN the vocals ruin it for me on the other tracks.
― Delia & Daphne & Celeste (Masonic Boom), Thursday, 25 March 2010 14:15 (fifteen years ago)
I feel there's something missing with their stuff as well. However their remix of The XX is nice in a tropical sort of way. Talabot mix of Seasun FTW, agree.
― Treblekicker, Thursday, 25 March 2010 14:19 (fifteen years ago)
Having listened to the EP, Seasun is the only one I really like. The others sound like they're trying a bit too hard.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 25 March 2010 14:29 (fifteen years ago)
Oh man. Moonson is fantastic. I put that on at my friend's wedding, and everyone went crazy, despite nobody ever hearing it before.
― Evan, Thursday, 25 March 2010 14:46 (fifteen years ago)
Saw them last night and they were OK. Their music is so dependent on the production/sound being *just right* that it's almost impossible to recreate in person. The Ayrton Senna EP is amazing in parts and the new album is impressive--I'm just not sure it's the kind of music I want to listen to for 45 minutes straight. We'll see how well Subiza ages. Whatever the case it has some amazing mixtape tracks.

vid is trying to do a nostalgic washed out feel. music reminds me of lo fi fnk and all the other scando rave-pop groups.
― jaxon, Thursday, 25 March 2010 18:20 (fifteen years ago)
"Scando rave-pop" might be my new perfect answer for what to say when asked what music I like, even if I'm not quite sure what it means in exact terms.
― boxedjoy, Friday, 26 March 2010 00:02 (fifteen years ago)
i'd like to reiterate my UTTER adoration of "stay close"
what a tease at the end, though..

on board
― mdskltr (blueski), Sunday, 28 March 2010 14:25 (fifteen years ago)
Whoa they've really changed their sound for Subiza and the last Ep. I remember them sounding like some sort of generic new wave/electro band when they were first starting and now it seems they've hop on board the chillwave/post-anco bandwagon. The sound, as creatively bankrupt as it is, actually seems to suit them better.
'Simple Graces' is my current favorite. Also 'Grow' which has a vocal sample very reminiscent of Burial.
― Moka, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 06:00 (fifteen years ago)
that song sounds much more like cut copy than chillwave
― hipster puddy (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 06:07 (fifteen years ago)
btw what is the ibiza pun that i'm missing w/ the title?
― hipster puddy (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 06:09 (fifteen years ago)
Come to think of it 'Deli' on the Ayrton Senna Ep does sound a lot like their older material but nothing on the new album seems to sound like that.
Subiza is not a pun on Ibiza, it's based on the name of a very small town -Olaz Subiza- inside Navarra. The band recorded the Lp in the Hans Krüger studios located in there and I suppose they liked the sound of it enough to name the record after it.
― Moka, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 07:26 (fifteen years ago)
thanks

If they had a half-decent vocalist and better production they might be the best band ever. There's a hint of real magic there, but the singer just ruins it. Also that M83/Maps/Washed Out "make it sound shoegazy by turning everything up and blurring it together" school of production is awful, it kills all the definition stone dead.
― Matt DC, Friday, 21 May 2010 11:26 (fifteen years ago)
I haven't bought the album yet, but I listened to a few samples. I really like the music but just couldn't listen to that singer. Are there any tracks that don't feature him?
― ljagljana (kkvgz), Friday, 21 May 2010 11:41 (fifteen years ago)
Aw I don't mind the singer. Then again I'm not English so I haven't had to listen to 1,000,000,000 bands that have singers like that.
My own personal Delorean update is that more than about two of their songs becomes like eating too much ice cream.
― The Clegg Effect (Tracer Hand), Friday, 21 May 2010 11:43 (fifteen years ago)
trcer, have u heard the tough alliance?
― Michael B, Friday, 21 May 2010 11:46 (fifteen years ago)
The singer actually has a really thick Spanish accent but that's not really the issue, it's that he has a really leaden voice that drags everything else down.
― Matt DC, Friday, 21 May 2010 11:50 (fifteen years ago)
Michael yes I have! I like them a lot.
― The Clegg Effect (Tracer Hand), Friday, 21 May 2010 11:51 (fifteen years ago)
looking fwd to seeing them in Barcelona next week
― mdskltr (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2010 12:19 (fifteen years ago)
i really enjoyed seeing them live when they played here last year, very high punk energy and much heavier on the percussion then i expected

<3 Deli and Seasun - no real problem with the dudes voice
― |8 l) u_u (bnw), Saturday, 22 May 2010 18:53 (fifteen years ago)
this album is pretty nice -- not much 'songwriting' but the vibe is definitely cool -- kinda feel like this is the album that the klaxons would've made if they grew up in spain instead of england
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 26 May 2010 07:30 (fifteen years ago)
when i tried to listen to this album i couldn't get through the first song. this style of production is just the wrong side of a line i usually enjoy - where blissy becomes bleary and just makes me feel queasy. air france, avalanches and to an extent jj are all guilty of this to
― لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 09:34 (fifteen years ago)
Nah the Avalanches and Air France put a lot more care into their production than Delorean. This is just the "turn everything up really loud" school of mastering.
― The Men Who Stare At Goatse (Matt DC), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 09:39 (fifteen years ago)
avalanches production = a messy bedroom. hated it so much then.

Live they were so much more - clearer - than I expected. Like, the swirly background stuff actually sounds a lot sharper than on the record. As if Studio were handling their sound design.

i know not everyone's behind the juke bandwagon, but this remix is pretty great

well, after listening to the original, it kinda strips away all of the euphoria from it. both are good, but i'm kinda missing the piano house feel
