^ agree. And yet...?

Olivier Messiaen Control (Paul in Santa Cruz), Thursday, 25 March 2010 18:14 (fifteen years ago)

Not much of a Portishead fan (though I like that album okay), so I can discount Third '08 right away. As an album, I can't say I have much love for Soft Machine's Third, but the song "Moon in June" might be the single greatest justification for prog pretensions ever recorded, so that gives me pause. But virtually every song on the Big Star album breaks my heart, especially this past week, so in the end, no contest - Big Star.

Soft Machine, because 'Moon In June' is pretty much the greatest thing ever recorded

LiveJournal (acoleuthic), Thursday, 25 March 2010 18:58 (fifteen years ago)

(Fully aware that Soft Machine will get about 3 votes, Portishead 10 and Big Star 400)

(lol ILM)

Portishead > Big Star >>>>>>>>>> Soft Machine.

(Portishead and Big Star could swap places at any time, and without notice.)

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 25 March 2010 19:02 (fifteen years ago)

I voted Soft Machine. Portishead is great though and has aged well with me. Big Star I'm just not into.

Davek (davek_00), Thursday, 25 March 2010 19:06 (fifteen years ago)

I like both soft machine and portishead, but listen to the latter a lot more.

no interest in big star.

m the g, Thursday, 25 March 2010 19:09 (fifteen years ago)

Soft Machine. Don't like the Portishead at all, and I like the other two Big Star albums more than Third. Might take The James Gang's Thirds over all.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 25 March 2010 19:14 (fifteen years ago)

only serious contender for me against Big Star would've been Led Zeppelin

I'd take Three over Third too. And over Thirds. I'd take Weird Al In 3-D over these as well.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 25 March 2010 19:27 (fifteen years ago)

the third and final report of throbbing gristle amirite

LiveJournal (acoleuthic), Thursday, 25 March 2010 19:27 (fifteen years ago)

huh never noticed before but Hummel's pasted into that cover photo isn't he

Whats with all the littering? (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 25 March 2010 19:29 (fifteen years ago)

it's Stephens but yeah, some kinda shoddy pasting there

tylerw, Thursday, 25 March 2010 19:43 (fifteen years ago)

oh right sorry

Whats with all the littering? (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 25 March 2010 19:45 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, if this really does turn out to be "not even close", i will literally throw up

sleepingbag, Thursday, 25 March 2010 19:47 (fifteen years ago)

that portishead is one of my favourite albums, ever. though maybe i should listen to these three in succession...

borntohula, Friday, 26 March 2010 02:44 (fifteen years ago)

Prefer "#1 Record" and "Radio City" to "Third". And "Volume Two" to "Third". Don't think I've heard all of "Third". Voted Big Star.

The Oort Locker (Tom D.), Friday, 26 March 2010 13:12 (fifteen years ago)

this wd rightly be big star by miles even without the untimely passing

nakhchivan, Friday, 26 March 2010 13:14 (fifteen years ago)

poll title shoulda been "this that and the third"

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Thursday, 1 April 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

how queer that the poll results of a numerological thread are all divisible by an equally holy number

acoleuthic, Thursday, 1 April 2010 23:02 (fifteen years ago)

? 35 is not divisible by 3 dude

Kaleidoscope Funk Network (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 1 April 2010 23:17 (fifteen years ago)

divisible in the Pythagorean ratio too!

acoleuthic, Thursday, 1 April 2010 23:19 (fifteen years ago)

no wait that's wrong

acoleuthic, Thursday, 1 April 2010 23:20 (fifteen years ago)

7 is a holy number?

Kaleidoscope Funk Network (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 1 April 2010 23:21 (fifteen years ago)

in several religions, 7 has special significance i thought

acoleuthic, Thursday, 1 April 2010 23:22 (fifteen years ago)

Loving this.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 2 April 2010 00:06 (fifteen years ago)

The Crass vs. Pretentious poll put this to shame.

skip, Friday, 2 April 2010 00:39 (fifteen years ago)

As big a Big Star fan as I am, and as broken up as I was over Chilton's death, I still voted Soft Machine.
