tbh, I don't know if ILM has ever been excited about anything Teddybears, but this album is hitting me just like Soft Machine did a few years ago. RIGHT IN THE FACE.

they did a remix of stayin' alive a few years ago that was as good (and maybe . . . even a little better) than the original.

Their production/mixing work has such a distinct fingerprint, but I love that about them. They turned a song from the last Marilyn Manson album into a Teddybears song, ffs.
Dunno why this isn't out anywhere but Sweden at the moment, and I don't even know when it will be out elsewhere. I just grabbed the lo-qual streams off of Klicktrack and have been playing them on a loop (64kbps doesn't sound so terrible on desktop speakers anyway). Looking forward to hearing a full-quality version, though.

That was a freebie download single last summer, and I've been waiting for the rest of the album ever since. "Crystal Meth Christian" is sooo good, and so is "Tek it Down," even though I'm not sure who Rigo is. Gonna investigate.

I guess people will finally care about it now.
Cee-Lo and the B-52s are even on the same song, which is nuts.
It's not, but it's pretty good.
And the Flaming Lips collab is called "Crystal Meth Christians", and if you asked me to come up with a parody of a Flaming Lips song title, I don't think I could manage anything that perfect.
Actually, it's "Crystal Meth Christian" and it's probably the best song Wayne Coyne has sung since "Do You Realize??".

Tried to hype this up for the 2010 trax poll, but it was me against the world

Amazon is selling the mp3 album for $5 this month. Robert Christgau has been going nuts about it. It's a cool record.
Devil's Music [Big Beat/Atlantic, 2011]Where the nominally similar Gorillaz are cool and detached, Teddybears want the world and they want it soon. Early in the lead track Eve--you remember Eve--utters, in fact sings, "I am the robot Elvis rocking my bionic pelvis/I'm Technotronic sipping vodka tonics yeah I'm selfish/I am the Killer shaking up some more rock and roll," at which point a vocodored Patrick Arve, Joachim Ahlund, or (most likely) Klas Ahlund murmurs, "Them drum machines ain't got no soul." Joke or gauntlet? The cheap answer is both, but let's make it gauntlet. Not afraid to be funny because they're having so much fun, Arve-Ahlund-Ahlund are one more electrobeat-wielding Swedish cartel bent on proving that rock and roll proceeds from enlightened capitalism like we had in America before our plutocrats started expanding the national income gap up past Colombia's. As soon as Eve is through, here come B.o.B. exulting about how he's gon' "Get Mama a House," Wayne Coyne having a go at "Crystal Meth Christians," Cee-Lo and the B-52's praising a pussycat who happens to be named "Cho Cha." There's also some unusually cheerful Krautrock and the antidrug "Cardiac Arrest," featuring the Teddybears' close personal business associate Robyn, who's why they got to make another U.S. album. Last one was Soft Machine, 2006. Sounded good then. Now it sounds like rock and roll busy being reborn. A

It was one of my favorites last year, but "Now it sounds like rock and roll busy being reborn" is some nuttery.

Ugh, I'm just now hearing the version of "Get Mama a House" with B.o.B and...gross.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 14:49 (thirteen years ago)
Best I can tell, the B-52's have been stripped from "Cho Cha" as well. >:(
America, screwing up good things as usual.

oh nm, I just heard Fred's part. But the backing vocals are way different than on the original version.

I just keep playing Tek It Down over and over. That's one of the best songs of the year and should be a hit.
