I'm not sure whether these people deserve their own thread, but I didn't think it would fit in any of the current "Rolling..." threads. I found this on this week's Forkast and I immediately loved it. Moroderesque mid 80's synths with epic drums and heavily pitched-down vocals:

A couple of other decent tunes on their myspace:

we've been discussing them a bit on the Salem thread which by now could maybe be turned into a rolling goth crunk thread

Is that a band name? If so it has to be worst ever. How are you supposed to pronounce it?

holy shit. did not know about this LiLo tribute thing!! i'm a mildly obsessive lilo apologist

i've been loving this band's EP for a few months. "No Shore" is addictive and sublime, in particular.

also lol @ "Tri Angle Records"

i still contend that 20JFG is one of hte best music blogs ever, participation in altered zonez or not

i'm just gonna go ahead and believe that the name is tongue in cheek

"The songs are like slave songs for a world where everyone thinks slavery was abolished and the people don’t know they’re slaves. So the music is full of longing, but in an unconscious way. The lyrics might be about wanting love or wanting a new pair of jeans, but they’re secretly about wanting freedom."

the original is better

though it's a sign of impeccable taste that they chose that particular lilo deep cut to cover

that interview is is pretty rad. his description of SF and it's "creative" inhabitants is dead on.

The whole thing can be downloaded here for free. Highlights, IMO, are the oOoOO one, "Bossy" by Autre Ne Veut and "I Can Try To Run (Stuck)" by Babe Rainbow.

lollll, i'mma call BS on all this. SF has a rich history of greedy opportunism, not even starting with "go west", yet little has changed in 162 years. impotent parting shots from a post-hipster.

NB: i don't work in tech/it any of that.

_▂▅▇█▓▒░◕‿‿◕░▒▓█▇▅▂_ (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 22:27 (fifteen years ago)

that interview is no where enar as good as the one with the dude from Salem about how he used to turn tricks for crack

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 22:29 (fifteen years ago)

I'm glad someone had this idea. I feel like most of these bands are good at creating interesting noises but are mostly terrible/uninterested in "proper" songwriting and coming up with pop hooks etc.

the subject of many men’s thoughts (daavid), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 22:30 (fifteen years ago)

xpost

I guess I was referring to the parts about how dull the city can be, despite the best intentions of creative types here. There are people doing interesting things, but most of it's pretty much paint-by-numbers from what I've seen. The city is in dire need of an artistic renaissance. I'm pretty sure both I and the guy from the band don't believe that the entire city's economy is based on Google.

Loverboy (Spinspin Sugah), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 22:46 (fifteen years ago)

If his music is what passes as creativity these days, then keep that shit out of San Francisco.

SF needs an artistic 9/11 and oOoOO... as much as it pains me to say it, is our Osama bin Laden.

four weeks pass...

saw the debut performance last night at aunt charlie's and it was pretty rad. setup was just a laptop + juno synth + effects box for the vocals, but it sounded great

maybe he should keep his mouth shut when it comes to san francisco's creative drought or whatever (even if i sorta agree, it gives people something easy to hate) but this stuff is much more tolerable than salem- seemed more akin to chromatics/the spacier side of idib. nothing groundbreaking, but he has a nice sound that he doesn't eff up by trying to include chopped and screwed raps or incessant references to crack or anything like that

OK no. I've changed my mind, the Salem album is incredible, still nothing tops seaww IMO.

If you like overdone vocals and electric guitars via Miley Cyrus, then yeah. oOoOO's cover fixes all that. The lyrics are the most gorgeous thing about this song, no matter who's singing it.

A bit on the lo-fi side even for oOoOO's standard. It's got some interesting ideas sewn together, not sure if they all work. Also, feels somewhat anachronistic, but not in a bad way.
