I wonder if there's a discography or song list that says who sings what.
I like Yo la tengo when Georgia Hubley is singing, or when it's instrumental. I don't care for that Ira Kaplan one bit though.
Can anyone help me with this?

my favorite hubley jam is "Nowhere Near," followed closely by "Pablo & Andrea."

Blue Line Swinger is one of the best Georgia vocals.

agreed -- but to say that it doesn't "feature" Ira Kaplan is sorta wacky ...

Sunsquashed is one of my favorite instrumentals ever, it's staggering at high volume.
thread should probably "say YLT songs not featuring Ira Kaplan's voice."
I always think it's Georgia on "You Can Have It All", but really I think it's got Ira as well, or all three.

yeah, a lot of their vox is doubled, esp. ca. painful/electropura

"tom courtenay" is a good example of this, but OP may be interested in acoustic version on Camp YLT which is just Georgia.

All three of them have weak voices. It's one of the biggest things that's turned me off the band over the last few years.

ira sings a little like he's humming under his breath while gardening now, it is true

Ira usually just sounds like a regular guy who heard Lou Reed once. Not all that different from Glen Mercer really. It always struck me as servicable and inoffensive.

Can't really defend Ira's singing (though I do like it), but Georgia's voice is really unique and beautiful (see Shadows, Madeline, Nowhere Near, etc).

This is a silly discussion post- Dylan.

Ira's kind of pitchy dawg. But he does his thing.
― kornrulez6969, Saturday, 3 April 2010 01:08 (fifteen years ago)
The music isn't really dependent on the strength of his voice, so it seems picky to get wrapped up in an discussion about it, thats all.

In my opinion, anyway.
Kind of painful (haw) to compare recent albums to May I Sing With Me or Fakebook. I just feel like like Ira and Georgia used to actually sing, now they just sort of exhale in tune.
I'm sympathetic to this, to a very small extent.

^^^ this.
"Sudden Organ" is striking for how definitive a statement it is (i.e., if someone asked what YLT sounded like, it's one of the first 3 tracks I'd pick) without the band's lead voice (i.e., Kaplan's guitar).
