Breaking The Girl is still a decent song, so that.

nate woolls, Sunday, 4 April 2010 11:09 (fifteen years ago)

The correct answer is "Black Eyed Blonde."

I think they recorded a few more songs than this.

knock me down is pretty great too. (and "higher ground," obv.)

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 4 April 2010 17:45 (fifteen years ago)

voted knock me down

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 4 April 2010 17:53 (fifteen years ago)

"Knock Me Down" or "Taste the Pain," the latter getting bonus points for being on the "Say Anything ..." soundtrack and also featuring Fish on drums. "Higher Ground" is totally inspired, too.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 4 April 2010 18:57 (fifteen years ago)

shame a band so good could turn so unbelievably shite. I wont be voting in that other poll.

Not for me they don't... but I still voted Knock Me Down.

The exclusion of "Catholic School Girls Rule" is kind of a huge oversight... It's even on "What Hits!?"

billstevejim, Monday, 5 April 2010 06:16 (fifteen years ago)

"breaking the girl" sounds like mid 60s lennon to me (in a good way)

hobbes, Monday, 5 April 2010 07:33 (fifteen years ago)

xp: sorry guys, I just pulled the list from the Red Hot Chili Peppers wikipedia discography page, which doesn't include the song. I see however that it is a single. All I can say is sorry.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 5 April 2010 09:07 (fifteen years ago)

Wasn't Baby Appeal a single too?

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 5 April 2010 09:44 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

No biggy. I wouldn't have voted for it over "Knock Me Down" anyway, but I still consider it their pre-Mothers Milk standout.

breaking the girl vs knock me down imo but no "special secret song inside" no cred

one year passes...

I'd go Knock Me Down these days. Here's a weird fact:

The track has not been performed live since 1990. Group photographer Tony Woolliscroft once requested it at a private studio rehearsal many years later. Frusciante launched into the opening chords but Kiedis refused.

Why would Keidis put the kibosh on Knock Me Down?

beachville, Saturday, 3 March 2012 11:41 (thirteen years ago)

Cause he's an asshole. (Just kidding.)

Nathalie (stevienixed), Saturday, 3 March 2012 13:36 (thirteen years ago)

No, I mean, I think you're probably spot on!

beachville, Saturday, 3 March 2012 13:37 (thirteen years ago)

Probably would have voted for 'Breaking The Girl', although 'Knock Me Down' ain't too shabby. Always wondered why they never dug that song out in the post-Navarro years.

Turrican, Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:25 (thirteen years ago)

well it's about Hillel Slovak dying from a heroin overdose. whatever I may feel about Keidis and how crappy his band became, I can get that he just plain doesn't want to sing it anymore.

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 3 March 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)

fair enough but, like, how many songs do they play every night that are about the band's collective struggles with heroin?
