Heaven knows it's got to be this POLL: Galaxie 500's cover versions -- which do you like best?

Been listening to Galaxie 500 all day and decided this had to be done -- not least simply as an excuse to show even more love for one of the best bands ever. I've included the cover versions on official releases, but feel free to nominate a live classic you've heard somewhere. I reckon "Ceremony" or "Don't Let Our Youth Go to Waste" will take this one, but I really, really love "Victory Garden".

Great poll idea, I love every single one of these except for the Buddy Holly song, which I haven't heard. I picked "Ceremony," since it's one of my favorite Galaxie 500 songs.

quite hard, ceremony is the instinctual choice but isn't it a pity is probably the one that works best of all in its context. so i'll go with george.

not sure I'd vote for it, but i have a soft spot for their "Final Day" -- it's where I first heard the song, actually! Was kind of surprised when I finally heard the original ...

Victory Garden. Ceremony close behind. I had the Rough Trade EP CD single or whatever with Blue Thunder sax version and the covers. It was my favorite thing ever.

I suppose "Ceremony" is the gut choice, but the "Submission" cover is terrific.

"Don't Let Our Youth Go to Waste" (especially the Peel version) is epic.

Every now and again, this 12" still is my favourite thing ever.

Pretty difficult. I opted for 'Dont Let Our Youth' because of the drums and the fact its a very novel cover (i.e them adding their own music). PErfect.

Love most of these, but it's difficult to argue with Don't Let Our Youth Go to Waste – Jonathan Richman.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Monday, 5 April 2010 13:45 (fifteen years ago)
