On Sunday night I went to a local semi regular club night called John:

(this is the image from the previous John, John VII. I attended John VIII. Prior to that i had been to the organisers' previous night Trough, but none of the Johns)
The idea of John is a kind of faggot electro house / ebm / primitive Chicago house affair. Which, musically, feels pretty familiar to me, as a lot of not-explicitly-gay nights sounded like this in circa 2003-2005 - think Ewan Pearson remixing "Perspex Sex" through to countless attempts to recreate "No Way Back" and "You Used To Hold Me". In conformity with their stylistic status throughout oh the last 15 years, gays are somewhat behind rather than ahead of the times in still finding this exciting rather than, oh, Bristol Purple Wow or whatevs.
NONETHELESS. I had a lot of fun, especially during Seymore Butts' set, who played this schaffelly track I'm trying to ID that had lyrics along the lines of "Don't you dare call me a bitch / even if I suck dick after dick" and so on. I was waiting for someone to drop Aaron Carl's "Down" but no one did. Surely this has happened at previous nights. I did enjoy dancing to "Theme From S'Express" though.
Seymore has a pretty great looking DJ mix series called "Sauna Sessions", apparently "based on his sets at legendary Sydney gay sauna Ken's." Lots of Khan and the like.
I was thinking about the DJ mixes that explicitly go for this vibe (whether deliberately or inadvertently) - DJ Naughty' One Night In Berlin, (surprisingly) Gus Gus's awesomely sultry live mix for Moonshine... What else?
AFAIK gay saunas actually play the kind of "gay" music Seymore mostly avoids - perky mersh house and chart pop. Maybe they figure broad appeal is more important than erm "fit". I love the idea though, in particular torpid percussive stuff a little bit slower than actual house but more mechanistic than disco - hence EBM, and also Patrick Cowley. And, of course, NIN's "Closer".
Anyway, this is a thread about this idea. Post suggestions, questions, youtube links etc.

DJ Naughty included this song on his mix and I think it is quite amazing:

Which Depeche Mode tune is best? This, or "Behind the Wheel"?

was just at the Steamworks in Chicago this weekend and the DJ played the Audion remix of "Plastic Dreams", that long ass DJ Hell track w Puff Daddy, "There's Some Hos in this House", lotsa tech-house, very little diva-ishness- it worked wonders, I must say.
DJ Bus Station John's parties in SF at the Powerhouse were pretty explicitly (ahem) framed as "Bathhouse classics", which for him was a really strict late 70s - early 80s disco/italo/proto hi NRG thing.

actually depeche mode "dangerous" (sensual mix) fits your concept better. ultra sexy low-slung industro-acid in a similar yet more restrained vein as "closer"

I vote for the East End remix of "Work Hard".

Haha it's like this thread came out of a random Tim F Thread Titles Generator or something.

Yes I was painfully aware of that when I started the thread...
Will post a bunch of further suggestions soon.

The Fuckpony album also has a sound a vibe that I think would do an awesome job soundtracking anonymous sex.

That Nicki French, she NAILED it.

My friend Catherine and I have a quasi-real pop outfit concept called The Event. We have half-written a song about the traumas of anonymous sex caused "Quiet Storm".

That's one of my tracks, believe it or not, with my music partner P@ul M@c. The lyric and vocal is MDNA from NY:

Of the remixes, well they're all good, but we're really keen on the M@jik Johnson one, which is here:

Hobbes, it's your special day and you're online posting about which is the best music to play in gay saunas! Good work sir!
I'd like to hear most of Disco Discharge's new comp 'Pink Pounders' on Harmless played in a gay sauna, especially Lift Off by Patrick Cowley.

MOLEY. I had no idea you were half of Itch-E & Scratch-E!! How did I not know this??
Awesome track.
