glen campbell does a really good version on his "old home town" album.

Classic, because my mother played it obsessively when I was a child, and so the song makes me instantly homesick whenever I hear it. This was in the American South mind you, where the song went nowhere, so for me it doesn't have the additional baggage of cultural ubiquity experienced by the aforementioned "brits of a certain age." I concur that it's real pretty, with lovely harmonies, and an exceptionally good vocal performance from McCartney. I even love the goddamn bagpipes.

Yup, I would be one of those.

Have only ever heard this in its entirety once, at a wedding in South Africa, when the DJ put it on (second song!) as a kind of welcome for the Scottish contingent. The Scottish contingent (being almost to a man Leodhasach) were not hugely impressed. The Afrikaaners lapped it up, but.

Never heard this song in its original version, but it was one of the first songs in my Hal Leonard guitar primer when I started taking lessons, which is enough reason for me to hate it.

Possibly my least favorite single of his from the 70's though the b-side Girls' School is classic! (Or maybe it was a double a-side, I forget.)
