For me this is one of DM's best songs. The music is brilliant while the lyrics are not cringe-inducing like with other DM songs.

Definitely a good song, but not sure why the lyrics are less (or more) cringe-inducing than other DM songs.

Well compare to "Leave in Silence", "People are People" or "Blasphemous Rumours", the lyrics in Stripped are much less cringe-inducing than those songs I mentioned.

Not sure why Depeche Mode lyrics are particularly more cringe-inducing than any other lyrics??

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Saturday, 10 April 2010 01:25 (fifteen years ago)

I mean I agree that it is a good song but do not agree that the lyrics are much different from most of Depeche Mode's repetoire.

& I like the "Leave in Silence" lyrics! (except "if I only had a potion, some magical lotion" lol.) the others you listed are def embarrassing though.

Well I always thought Depeche Mode were notorious for their really bad lyrics.

Depeche Mode lyrics aren't really bad per se. I think the issue is that the combination of their literateness, the English accents and Very. Clear. Enunciation. and the subject matter makes them seem a bit like English professor sitting down to write about sex.

This is prob my favourite DM album though and "Stripped" is one of its best songs. I've been listening to "It Doesn't Matter Two" a lot recently however.

thats how all english people talk about sex

It does remind me a bit of those annual awards for worst sex scene in a piece of celebrated literature.

What Gore is really strong with on this album is that overall thematic vibe of using sex as a way of purging yourself of shame and disappointment. I like the way it plays out in different ways on so many of the songs (peaking, perhaps, with "World Full Of Nothing").

In some ways, i think black celebration is a better album than violator.
