Love this album, particularly Ivo through Pandora and then Donimo to close.

i went with Persephone. A song unlike any I've ever heard, seriously.

runners up: "Aloysius" and "Pandora"

as a fan of the first 2 LPs and EPs so far when Treasure was released, on first listen I was crushingly disappointed with tracks 2-4 which fell far short of the best Head Over Heels and Sunburst And Snowblind tunes. "Domino" is no "Musette And Drums" either as a closer. so I've always had mixed feelings about Treasure as an album, despite featuring 3 or more of my very fave Cocteau Twins songs. for consistency I prefer Blue Bell Knoll, side 2 of Victorialand and Garlands.

Paul, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 17:22 (fifteen years ago)

"Cicely" is the batshit-crazy one here (the tune, that production freakout), for which it is much appreciated! it's Treasure's own "Four Sticks".

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Went with "Beatrix" because it probably won't get any other votes, and her voice on that song is particularly astounding. First heard it on a Peel session (along with my other choice, "Ivo", which will no doubt fare okay without my vote) and I don't think it even had a title at the time.

Lostandfound, Thursday, 15 April 2010 23:13 (fifteen years ago)

I think it was called "Wheesht" or something.

Gay nineties icecream party (Trayce), Friday, 16 April 2010 03:17 (fifteen years ago)

Trayce, that was it! I taped it at the time and I remember writing that down as the song title, and a Scottish friend said that's just Scottish for "shhhh", like when you settle a baby. It all comes back... :)

Lostandfound, Friday, 16 April 2010 03:51 (fifteen years ago)

And I thnk Ivo was called Peepbo or something on that session! I still have the tapes with peelie yammering over the end of the sets, somewhere (pity they never include his dulcet tones on the CD releases heh)

great album - couldn't tell you which is my fave though.

"Pandora" for me... today, at least.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 16 April 2010 13:12 (fifteen years ago)

You know, I love the idea of releasing all the Peel sessions with his original intros/ramblings, etc. As separate tracks/mp3s of course.

"Donimo" is indeed great. In a weird way, it's one of my favourite Christmas/seasonal/holiday songs (I know it probably wasn't meant to be -- was it? -- but once I'd heard it, I wasn't surprised that the Cocteau Twins ended up covering "Frosty the Snowman").

Lostandfound, Friday, 16 April 2010 20:21 (fifteen years ago)

Went with Beatrix too, I always find myself going to that song. The pseudo-harpsichordiness just seems so unique for Cocteau Twins, but also really successful.

four years pass...

30 years old as of this past Saturday.

Lately I've been listening to playlists of songs sorted by year. As unique and amazing as Cocteau Twins sound in general, listening to, say, Treasure in the context of the other music that came out that same year is a little mind blowing.

one month passes...

So it turns out there was a video for "Pandora." Which the director found and uploaded last month, so:

nine years pass...

40 years old today. Given the new Cure album opens with a song that has very Robin Guthrie guitar, I like to think the impact still plays out.
