I "Kill at Will" like solid water, dude.
Y'all n****z don`t GET IT
"Kill at Will"? Solid water? Ice Cube
Ha ha

--Jay-Z, "Back In The Day"

*********

If Faith had twins, she'd probably have two 'Pacs
Get it? Tu... pac's

--Biggie, "Hit Em Up," with prolly the most overrated "classic" line in rap history imo

Put my bracelet in the mirror

B-I-G, G-I-E, A.K.A., B.I.G., GET IT?! BIGGIE!

^^^^ guess Biggie liked the whole "get it" thing, this one's not even a pun!

I guess it's a B.I.G. pun GET IT?!?!? http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61M2PVF2Y4L._SL500_AA240_.jpg

dmr, Sunday, 11 April 2010 18:02 (fifteen years ago)

i think the eminem one might have actually been lost on everyone w/o the "get it"

the smh westerns (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 11 April 2010 18:04 (fifteen years ago)

the two Pac's line really is classic tho

tbrrprint (2) HD (zvookster), Sunday, 11 April 2010 18:08 (fifteen years ago)

*imagines a sea of frat boys hearing that line the first time and going "Oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" after the crucial clarification*

Phoenix in Flight (Cattle Grind), Sunday, 11 April 2010 18:09 (fifteen years ago)

i find this not that obnoxious

thomp, Sunday, 11 April 2010 18:12 (fifteen years ago)

also the 'get it? biggie' is doing something linguistically different to the other ones quoted: it's like 'you should now have no excuse for not remembering who i am', not 'do you see what i did there'

thomp, Sunday, 11 April 2010 18:14 (fifteen years ago)

the biggie pun could have easily stood on it's own w/o the "clarification" tho

the smh westerns (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 11 April 2010 18:18 (fifteen years ago)

also from brooklyns finest, not hit 'em up, which was a lame-ass 'pac tune. (for completions sake.)

he might have even have gone in. (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 11 April 2010 18:20 (fifteen years ago)

the 'two pacs' one? that one i also like mainly because his 'get it' is like an aural shit-eating grin

xp

thomp, Sunday, 11 April 2010 18:21 (fifteen years ago)

exactly

yeah I know ... but whenever that line comes on I think "what's to get?"

The chain remians, the gang is in tact
The name is mine, I'll take blame for that
The pressure's on, but guess who ain't gon' crack? (laughs)
Part of me I had to laugh at that crack, you know, like the drug crack

one year passes...

so I've only heard the radio edit of marvin & chardonnay and kanye ends his first by going "this is the ____ anthem get it? the ____ anthem?"

finally heard the unedited version on spotify and so kanye says "this the fucking anthem, get it? the fucking anthem? AAAGGHHHHHH~!!!!"

is the pun really as obvious as it seems, why does it warrant a 'get it?', fuck off ye

dayo, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 10:31 (fourteen years ago)

i'll be honest it took me a second to get it

dylannn, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 11:06 (fourteen years ago)

I squeeze nipples like pimples
to get the pus, GET IT?!

Nas: "Nazareth Savage"

Bonus points for being one of the least sexy sex metaphors in the history of rap music.

Number None, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 11:10 (fourteen years ago)

lil wayne's lyric in rick ross's "9 piece" is basically the worst thing i've heard all year

automatic leave 'em dead in the living room
GET IT?????? leave 'em DEAD in the LIVING room

to make it even more insulting the beat stops during that 2nd line just to make sure you can't miss the lyrical brilliance

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

the "two pacs" line is amazing in my opinion.

it hits at something about biggie that i love, he had a certain wry, sad kind of self depreciation that was funny but also a little hurt (like "black and ugly as ever") i always wonder if ppl made fun of him for being fat & ugly and it kind of came out in those small moments

it was essentially the greatest response you could have to the whole thing, sort of how people are in real life, sometimes they make jokes about themselves before people can make fun of them, sort of disarming the whole thing...what other response could have been so effective, at the same time a clever and quotable line but also admitting yeah it happened and that's my life

the "get it" part doesn't bother me and doesn't matter at all IMO

yeah the context is what makes the two pacs line classic. i was just thinking about how much vulnerability he betrays in the line "cause when I like ya, then ya go and fuck my friend bitch" in friend of mine.
