hi i am aware of where i am posting. thanks for listening. i thought someone here might be able to do something re:"lost in the sauce" by malik sealy that i posted a while back...
some artist named chipinkos is claiming the song on content i.d. systems and it's obviously completely dubious. i made a youtube short showing it playing from spotify, and if you play "lost in the sauce" into shazam it tells you it's chipinkos.
i know this happens probably a lot more than gets noticed but this one feels extra slimey. idk how to report this kind of thing. i can appeal the claim on my short video which may get it put into 'fair use' but that doesn't help malik sealy's legacy. any ideas? share my video if needed, who knows how long it's been like that.
(not that it matters, but that chipinkos artist has about a gazillion releases on spotify which is highly sus imo)
also if anyone wants to assign me to find discrepancies in digital catalogue music like this, i accept all jobs pro bono. i try not to get lost in the sauce, after all.
― austinato (Austin), Thursday, 14 May 2026 04:08 (four months ago)
honestly I don't know that much but from what I understand these things are kind of a nightmare to deal with and it seems like it would be pretty difficult to contest given that you yourself are not the rights holder (or frankly it's quite possible that Sealy himself didn't even hold the rights to his own song), not super helpful I know

On Jay-Z, never really forgot, he's always been one of my top rappers and I just kind of ignore the weaker later stuff. I tend to forget he has a full 13 studio albums, but at a minimum four of them (Reasonable Doubt, Hard Knock Life, Blueprint, Black Album) are wall-to-wall classics and plenty of great tracks and verses scattered throughout the rest.
― longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 13 July 2026 18:41 (two months ago)
that new reasonable doubt target exclusive vinyl reissue is $50, and it's not even a gatefold cover. he should bring back his flow from big l's "da graveyard."
genuine thoughts:hiphop without him feels incomplete, even though i haven't actively been listening for a long, long time. even though i've never thought of him as a 'villain' type figure --like the way i often have with kanye-- he's always been problematic, despite his sporadic good moments. more good material than ll cool j, i'll give him that. and at least one acknowledged certified classic album, with convincing arguments to be made in a few other cases. i hope his next surprise freestyle has product placements.

back to the backpack beats, here's one i never bought properly on physical because it showed up on so many mixtapes:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AANEO6M15Hgpaw dukes - "amazin" (1998)very fondly remembered, and mostly on account of the beat. put together by highly recommended mpc producer and loose gang starr foundation affiliate dialek. dialek went on to do beats for krumb snatcha and edo g, repping boston all the way. he died in 2023.
the "amazin" beat has been sporadically stuck in my head on loop since at least late july. i'm not even mad. rip dialek.🎧

listen I love Big L, bought that CD right when it came out based off some hype from the Source and obviously that kind of stuff was extremely up my alley, but at the time I'm not sure it was considered more hype than, say, the Smoothe Da Hustler album or stuff like that. I guess, imo, to be the most influential you'd have to say that a rapper really changed the course of hip hop, and I'm not saying that Big L wasn't great, but I think if he never existed the course of hip hop doesn't really look much different, he was a a brilliant practitioner of a certain style that was pretty established
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 7 September 2026 18:29 (one week ago)
i love big l. always have, always will. i hear his patterns and polyrhythms in a lot of new school rappers.
since i had some folks attention in here i wanted to ask about some old 90s hiphop controversy that i haven't ever really seen get addressed. before i say anything, i have to say that i always liked boot camp click — never loved. beatminerz were some of the best sp1200/mpc beats in that boombap era. sean price of course got his start with them. they made good east coast hiphop.
. . .why did the white guy get away with saying n on their records?
to be fair, it was only once on enta da stage. but still???????? the source gave that schitt like 4 mics wtf
― austinato (Austin), Wednesday, 9 September 2026 16:34 (one week ago)
On a similar note, I don't remember much fuss when the more hardcore white rappers of the Rawkus era--Cage, Necro, et al--would use that word. I'm always loath to ascribe these things to "welp, different times (shrug)", but in retrospect it is weird
