The songs that are gonna be all over the radio during the summer are getting released now.

billstevejim, Sunday, 18 April 2010 07:05 (fifteen years ago)

Does "jam" imply only hiphop?

PEDANTRY JAMS 2010 (a some dude free thread)

gucci mane leflaur leflah eshkoshka (The Reverend), Sunday, 18 April 2010 07:26 (fifteen years ago)

just saying what's wrong with spring jams and/or waiting til summer. i've said this like every year that i've been on ilx, though, just upholding tradition really.

a hoy hoy young mess (some dude), Sunday, 18 April 2010 07:43 (fifteen years ago)

You gotta start collecting jams for the summer now! I make a summer mix every year, I've got like eight songs already for it. Keep 'em coming, folks!

rennavate, Sunday, 18 April 2010 07:54 (fifteen years ago)

here's the thing -- since i grew up in miami, i have no concept of seasons, since it's always just hot. so now living out in the midwest, once it goes from cold -> warm i'm all AW YEAH IT'S SUMMER, SON even tho it's actually SPRING which didn't exist in my childhood. hence me starting this thread in april bcuz it was 85 degrees.

an actual jerk (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 18 April 2010 08:00 (fifteen years ago)

shipley, i honest to god suggest banned u for that

gucci mane leflaur leflah eshkoshka (The Reverend), Sunday, 18 April 2010 08:46 (fifteen years ago)

this fukkin thriller funky house song is a total summer jam

The BoyBoy Big HOO$ (deej), Sunday, 18 April 2010 15:05 (fifteen years ago)

jacka & laroo - don't be scared

The BoyBoy Big HOO$ (deej), Sunday, 18 April 2010 15:17 (fifteen years ago)

the spring jam is actually kinda distinct from the summer jam - giddier, full of exclamation marks that have been pent up all winter. imo mariah carey is pretty much the mistress of the spring jam - she has so many songs in her discography that are perfect for ~this weather right here~

the summer jam tends to be either full on banger à la "crazy in love"/sean paul singles or, for preference, that kind of totally airy, laidback, sun-scorched vibe exemplified in nina sky's "move ya body" or lumidee's "never leave you"

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Sunday, 18 April 2010 15:18 (fifteen years ago)

Shutterbug rules. so far the only true summer jam.

Captain Ahab, Sunday, 18 April 2010 16:01 (fifteen years ago)

<3 that post lex

plax (ico), Sunday, 18 April 2010 16:04 (fifteen years ago)

The problem is, Lex, when you live in a climate where this is ONLY winter and "summer" (sometimes I don't know if you can even call it summer), you have no time for spring jams! :p

rennavate, Sunday, 18 April 2010 21:05 (fifteen years ago)

two months pass...

Now that we're getting our first real stretch of nice weather this year in PDX (+ the official start of summer this week) seems like time for a revive. What are ppl jamming?

Ari (whenuweremine), Thursday, 24 June 2010 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

new dream album is sounding pretty great in this weather BUT particularly F.I.L.A. and Yamaha.

Ari (whenuweremine), Thursday, 24 June 2010 20:10 (fifteen years ago)

Any more?

The referee was perfect (Chris), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

chris i gotta say i find it weird you can be both a nina-sky-jocking popist and a hardline benitez loyalist at the same time, it just doesnt add up dude

r|t|c, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 21:56 (fifteen years ago)

this fukkin thriller funky house song is a total summer jam

is there a way to do an anti suggest ban like "points for the defence"

Tim F, Thursday, 8 July 2010 08:03 (fifteen years ago)

game ft justin timberlake

yeah i said it

r|t|c, Thursday, 15 July 2010 22:07 (fifteen years ago)

man these summer jam threads are always pitiful tho, perfect example of what shipley's talking about when he bitches about the internet community bubble round here

point one: a summer jam is not something you yourself press the play button on from ur sodding itunes "yet another imaginary summer, sigh" playlist, it is the obvious bullshit that's everywhere that everyone knows

r|t|c, Thursday, 15 July 2010 22:14 (fifteen years ago)

Alphabeat - DJ (the newish mix) is a fokkin earworm

_▂▅▇█▓▒░◕‿‿◕░▒▓█▇▅▂_ (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 15 July 2010 22:21 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, because "game ft justin timberlake" is just inescapable right now

i think i'm baby peach, larry koopa (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 15 July 2010 22:51 (fifteen years ago)

just today i walked out of the house and heard the song being played from FOUR DIFFERENT CARS in my neighborhood and was just like "THAT'S IT! I'M STAYING INSIDE! ENOUGH OF HEARING GAME FT JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE EVERYWHERE!"

i think i'm baby peach, larry koopa (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 15 July 2010 22:52 (fifteen years ago)

california gurls and alejandro are my inescapable summer jams and that probably goes for most other people in the world right now, too. i like both a lot

young monet (samosa gibreel), Thursday, 15 July 2010 23:03 (fifteen years ago)

game ft jt is playlisted on most urban stations round here! how the fuck else would i have come to conclusion it's a jam otherwise, wasnt gonna bump it myself for the 2k10 was i

r|t|c, Thursday, 15 July 2010 23:29 (fifteen years ago)

fair enough it is probably just a uk out of touch meta-nostalgia thing but a thing it is nevertheless

r|t|c, Thursday, 15 July 2010 23:31 (fifteen years ago)

most songs that get played on mainstream radio or are "everywhere" in a pop sense in 2010 are pretty terrible though, outside the obvious rude boy/telephone/pass out types. i guess we could just say whatever the latest tedious jason derulo/david guetta hit is?

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 15 July 2010 23:57 (fifteen years ago)

my #1 summer jam that is EVERYWHERE TO EVERYONE is "lose my mind"

i think i'm baby peach, larry koopa (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 15 July 2010 23:58 (fifteen years ago)

which is now my #1 single of the year

i think i'm baby peach, larry koopa (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 15 July 2010 23:58 (fifteen years ago)

actually the derulo/guetta collabo isn't as bad as I expected, though obv it rips off "I Gotta Feeling" shamelessly.

Tim F, Thursday, 15 July 2010 23:59 (fifteen years ago)

lol what derulo and guetta have collaborated?! christ. my slash stood for "or" not "and" :(

fucking hate them both so much (also hate "i gotta feeling")

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:00 (fifteen years ago)

Oh sorry I was thinking of the flo rida/guetta collabo. derulo is kind of the R&B flo rida in my head - and both have done one song I actually really love ("in my head" and "in the ayer").

Tim F, Friday, 16 July 2010 00:04 (fifteen years ago)

i've come around to 'i gotta feeling' soooo much since last summer. i remember making fun of people for having voted it into the top 10 in last year's poll but now i see the light. seems like they're still playing it just as much. would love if radio here played "lose my mind"

young monet (samosa gibreel), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:04 (fifteen years ago)

i like "birthday", "low" and "in the ayer" by flo rida but don't really have much time for him particularly

derulo is just...i like too many great male r&b singers to give a shit about someone who's boring-to-dreadful every time out in terms of both material and delivery. p much worthless.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:06 (fifteen years ago)

derulo is my least favorite male r&b singer going right now -- all of his songs are shit, they all sound like complete ass, and ppl vouching for the imogen heap song are out of their minds

i think i'm baby peach, larry koopa (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:07 (fifteen years ago)

just wanna rewind to the pre-rihanna assault era of male teen pop r&b

i think i'm baby peach, larry koopa (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:08 (fifteen years ago)

My summer jams:

Rick Ross ft Ne-Yo - Super High
Roisin Murphy - Momma's Place
Big Boi ft. T.I. and Khujo Goodie - Tangerine
M.I.A. - XXXO
Scissor Sisters - Sex and Violence

I'm never gonna do it without the Lex on (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:10 (fifteen years ago)

i don't understand why derulo and jay sean and iyaz, who as dave moore said should just start releasing records as jayseandiyrulaz for all their pointless interchangeability*, all have such successful careers when [male r&b singers who are actually half decent] don't :(

*they'd prob be a ton more palatable as a generic jls-type r&b boyband tbh

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:11 (fifteen years ago)

i actually like iyaz

i think i'm baby peach, larry koopa (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:11 (fifteen years ago)

derulo & iyaz are direct creations of jr rotem -- let's start there

i think i'm baby peach, larry koopa (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:12 (fifteen years ago)

i don't like the heap song and actively dislike "ridin' solo". May not have liked "in my head" if it wasn't used so well in a routine on So You Think You Can Dance (in Australia).

Iyaz is a different kettle of fish surely.

Tim F, Friday, 16 July 2010 00:12 (fifteen years ago)

Rick Ross ft Ne-Yo - Super High

alfred check out this remix

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCqUyCiOmvU

i think i'm baby peach, larry koopa (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:12 (fifteen years ago)

iyaz is sort of like a good sean kingston, jay sean/derulo are bad chris browns

i think i'm baby peach, larry koopa (J0rdan S.), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:13 (fifteen years ago)

^^^ Though I'm not sure whether I prefer "Replay" or "Me Love".

Tim F, Friday, 16 July 2010 00:18 (fifteen years ago)

not saying s kingston is good, but iyaz hasn't come close to anything as disposably enjoyable as "beautiful girls"

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:25 (fifteen years ago)

i'll stick up for 'ridin solo' tbh, it's fun to me. i just like the way dude blurts that shit out on the chorus, the energy overrides the generic uglyness you get with this stuff usually

who else on here said they liked it, was it plax?

r|t|c, Friday, 16 July 2010 00:31 (fifteen years ago)

they'd prob be a ton more palatable as a generic jls-type r&b boyband tbh

are you guys still fronting on 'the club is alive' btw

r|t|c, Friday, 16 July 2010 00:34 (fifteen years ago)

you know how i don't get along with musicals that aren't evita (and i know how you do)

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 16 July 2010 00:35 (fifteen years ago)

no ridiculous pounding 4/4 chorus breaks is what i get along with!

r|t|c, Friday, 16 July 2010 00:51 (fifteen years ago)

washed up old rapper...pm dawn beatjack...corny house beat...but i dunno i love it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f08t4zypWB0

r|t|c, Friday, 16 July 2010 01:00 (fifteen years ago)

I have a new summer jam as of last night, and it is the Nocera's "Summertime, Summertime" (notably the Hard Summer Dub).

the aztec mystic pizza (Stevie D), Sunday, 18 July 2010 16:06 (fifteen years ago)
