so is this glo-fi/chillwave/whatever? whole album is all shimmery and bubbly and schweppervescent

listened to ten seconds of this, and it sounds post-AnCo to me for sure

been meaning to check these guys out - sounds promising

I'd recommend checking out their first album, "Sea Lion," first.

i really like some of Sea Lion, which has this weird almost-Hawaiian vibe on some tunes, where the new one has that Now Sound.
so Animal Collective is like Sonic Youth to chillwave's grunge? i figure one of these bands might come along with real trad songwriting chops to go with the hyper-processed psychedelic sheen and it will be Nirvana.

if bands are going to take cues from Animal Collective, they should take them from Feels and Strawberry Jam, not Merriweather

sea lion was the second album. the first was very beach boys, then they started listening to animal collective, and then apparently discovery.

They had an LP and ep before that. In that time Person Pitch came out and their sound changed too much for comfort. Not a fan here

I really liked Sea Lion, but really hate this new one.

"Cranberry" is one of my favourite tracks of the year so far. "Cinco" and "Two Humans" are also fabulous.

Ditto. The world-vibe of "Sea Lion" is inviting whereas this new one just put me right off.

nice sound/ideas overall but as with yeasayer finding the vocals too weak
― mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 28 April 2010 23:56 (fifteen years ago)
so this is basically the guy from The Shins fronting Yeasayer

first album is great, sounds like mabuses and el goodo

Yeah I think the vocals are the weakest link on even the best tracks - sometimes the harmonies are great but I would prefer someone else singing them.
