Is "youth culture" a good thing?

Musicians are generally concerned with representing the youth, promoting youthful energy and ideas. Is this a good thing when it is obvious the youth are easily fooled? (http://www.youthculture.com , for example is concerned in finding out what early adopters find "cool" as kids will follow their lead, where early adopters get their ideas and how to predict what early adopters will find cool in the future). Does the vitality of youth win out over the obvious ignorance of it? The psychology of "cool" proves it to be an immature motivational factor for social bonding or elevation of social status, so why is it so important? Is youth-oriented material inherently childish? Were The Problematics onto something with their song and album titled "Kids All Suck"?

Does this sort of society encourage a midlife crisis or a refusal to mature? In NYC, 70 year old women in tight leather pants? Do you find this a bit sad?

Or do you revel in youth culture and find it the very essence of revolution and education, vitality and individuality?

Ultimately not many people keep up with youth culture for a long time. In 60 years I'm sure my grandchildren will laugh at my Fred Durst-style red cap while I think I'm still keeping up with the youth.
