Everyone from this thread must comment here:

Men Without Hats, 'Pop Goes the World'

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

yes, what's the meaning of this song? I can't quite figure it out and someone sent it

Tasha, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 18:38 (fifteen years ago)

It's an awesome album and I'm trying to figure out the meaning of that song

Tasha, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 18:40 (fifteen years ago)

how can i pick just one

sleepingbag, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

I would interpret it using a complex series of words and emoticons

the first circus ringleader in space (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 21 April 2010 18:46 (fifteen years ago)

hmm.. complex series of words and emoticons, meaning? give me a try hahaha

Tasha, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

the song appears to be about someone desperately in love who can't express it

HI DERE, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 18:56 (fifteen years ago)

"the song is about "what is someone telling you with this song?"" is some sort of deep zen koan shit that will prevent me from voting in this poll.

HOT DISH THYME MACHINE (jjjusten), Wednesday, 21 April 2010 18:59 (fifteen years ago)

"the song is about "what is someone telling you with this song?"" is some sort of deep zen koan shit that I voted for almost immediately

HI DERE, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:03 (fifteen years ago)

fucking hippie

HOT DISH THYME MACHINE (jjjusten), Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

HI DERE, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

HOT DISH THYME MACHINE (jjjusten), Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:06 (fifteen years ago)

HI DERE, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:07 (fifteen years ago)

Once again I marvel at the dynamics that Minnesota produces.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:08 (fifteen years ago)

you guys are too funny

Tasha, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:23 (fifteen years ago)

its weird, here you are saying this song is about someone in love who can't express it and some sort of deep zen koan shit and others think its about be isolated and trying to connect, I still don't get it

Tasha, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:27 (fifteen years ago)

this is the one song on 'pop goes the world' where the lyrics really measure up to the words on their earlier records, good call

and your poll shows that you already understand the lyrics so don't worry

Milton Parker, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:39 (fifteen years ago)

Thank Milton, even though I'm still a little confuse hahaha

Tasha, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:44 (fifteen years ago)

I still can't figure out wether is a song about "someone who's in love and don't know how to express it" or "someone who's trying to find himself"

Tasha, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:49 (fifteen years ago)

it could be both

HI DERE, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:51 (fifteen years ago)

OR NEITHER

HOT DISH THYME MACHINE (jjjusten), Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:52 (fifteen years ago)

hmm.. Why neither? You just said it was some sort of deep zen koan shit... so how would you interpret it?

Tasha, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:56 (fifteen years ago)

i normally use a thick stack of post-it notes, a black ink pen, and some good quality thinking time.

HOT DISH THYME MACHINE (jjjusten), Wednesday, 21 April 2010 20:01 (fifteen years ago)

For a sec I thought the thread question meant 'interpret' in the performance sense, like how would you stylize O sole Mio if you were singing it on American Idol?

I Smell Xasthur Williams (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 21 April 2010 20:02 (fifteen years ago)

I'd throw some T-Pain autotune on there, give it a little country-swing beat, with a dubstep breakdown in the middle

Milton Parker, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 20:06 (fifteen years ago)

it is about being in love with the world and not being sure the world will love you back

contenderizer, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

Tasha, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 20:13 (fifteen years ago)

HOt DISH, just tell me what's the first thing it comes to mind when you hear the song, what would you think if I send you that song... first thing that pops in your mind, how would you feel hehehe

Tasha, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 20:14 (fifteen years ago)

Hey Milton, you are getting me confuse with all the titanic stuff

Tasha, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 20:16 (fifteen years ago)

it's an ancient message board dedicated to a song by another Canadian artist in which I think many of the posts are sincere, some of them are fake, and it all comes together in a way so that it doesn't matter which are which -- a lot like Ivan's lyrics for the first two incredible albums by Men Without Hats

Milton Parker, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 20:22 (fifteen years ago)

ohh got you!! :)

Tasha, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 20:23 (fifteen years ago)
