Please Do Not Swagga Jack Me (Matos W.K.), Friday, 23 April 2010 04:26 (fifteen years ago)

But really just one: "Work It," which I voted for.

Please Do Not Swagga Jack Me (Matos W.K.), Friday, 23 April 2010 04:27 (fifteen years ago)

I remember a lot of people coming in to ask for 'India Air' CDs at this time.

kissogram powers (Abbott), Friday, 23 April 2010 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

This is probably my favorite music video of all time btw, such good feelings every time, for "Love of My Life":

artie flange (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 April 2010 04:33 (fifteen years ago)

yeah that video is amazing -- badu's rap is ^____________^ 4 all time

artie flange (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 April 2010 04:34 (fifteen years ago)

totally agree w/ j0rdan's rankings

Yonder Mountain Zing Band (Tape Store), Friday, 23 April 2010 04:37 (fifteen years ago)

:D

artie flange (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 April 2010 04:37 (fifteen years ago)

torn between "Sk8r Boi" and "My Town" and "When The Last Time" and "Love Of My Life" and "Like I Love You" and "My Friends Over You"

instead of waiting for "Work It" to win I'll get my challops out of the way now and say I think it's a middling Missy single and really nothing special

some dude, Friday, 23 April 2010 04:45 (fifteen years ago)

Oh really. I would never have guessed that.

T Bone Streep (Cave17Matt), Friday, 23 April 2010 05:03 (fifteen years ago)

Trying to think if there's one pop moment of the 2000s I prefer to "DRUMS!" and coming up blank

can't believe sarges and tape store don't f/w "Dirrty"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blinky_Blink (The Reverend), Friday, 23 April 2010 16:41 (fifteen years ago)

Then again, that's one of those songs I don't think I ever liked until I was old enough to go to clubs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blinky_Blink (The Reverend), Friday, 23 April 2010 16:42 (fifteen years ago)

Dirrty was such an underrated period for Christina, hope her new album captures some of that magic.

Would rep for all the pop songs here btw

it's between that, "dirrty" and "work it" for me, anyway - think will go with missy

that rolling stone cover

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 23 April 2010 17:05 (fifteen years ago)

Missy obviously.

Really, we should just vote for second place this time. I'd go with Montgomery Gentry, then Shakira, then probably Justin or Dixie Chicks though they've got some competition. I should probably catch up with Avant and with early '00s Vandross singles someday.

xhuxk, Friday, 23 April 2010 17:10 (fifteen years ago)

i voted clipse but i somehow didnt see the timberlake listed at first glance

johnny crunch, Friday, 23 April 2010 17:14 (fifteen years ago)

early '00s Vandross singles someday.

Not missing much.

Went for Justin over Missy and Lavigne because, reviewing it for that Stylus one-off earlier this year, it still sounded so damn fresh, like he could go anywhere he wanted.

That U2 song (kinda forgotten now) is actually one of their more tolerable latter-day anthems.

Throwing Muses are reuniting for my next orgasm! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 23 April 2010 17:19 (fifteen years ago)

gah should've voted "dirrty" - that ascending holler with which xtina ushers redman in is still O_O

it seems rather quaint to think that "dirrty" was considered shockingly whorish at the time

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 23 April 2010 17:27 (fifteen years ago)

I think that rep came more from the video and her image at the time than the song itself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blinky_Blink (The Reverend), Friday, 23 April 2010 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

it is pretty whorish

artie flange (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 April 2010 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

xp yeah, but even the video/image don't seem particularly whorish by today's standards

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 23 April 2010 17:59 (fifteen years ago)

um yeah, I don't think I can actually agree with that

HI DERE, Friday, 23 April 2010 18:10 (fifteen years ago)

xp you're kidding me right?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blinky_Blink (The Reverend), Friday, 23 April 2010 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

like watching the opening sequence with the panties & chaps on a motorcycle ending with her marching around in bra and panties getting ready to beat up another woman in a similar outfit and remembering things like Redman punching a furry in the face and her frolicking with dancers on a bathroom floor...

HI DERE, Friday, 23 April 2010 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

you forgot that the whole thing was set in like a public shower of some sort

HI DERE, Friday, 23 April 2010 18:42 (fifteen years ago)

idk i actually find the amount of writhing and skin habitually shown these days regardless of whether the song demands it or not to be far...more depressing, i guess, than "dirrty", which just seems like your average PCDs stage show nowadays (with extra mud)

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 23 April 2010 18:48 (fifteen years ago)

can you post an example of what you're talking about?

maybe 2?

HI DERE, Friday, 23 April 2010 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

also the thing is, there was no real transition from "genie in a bottle"-era xtina (despite that song's dirtiness) to "dirrty"-era xtina -- she went straight from "i'm wearing jeans, but you can still see my stomach" to "SEX BOMB IN MY ASSLESS CHAPS, UUNNGGGHH" and it was pretty whorish

yo gotti or notti (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 April 2010 18:52 (fifteen years ago)

the desperation of the whole thing intensifies the garishness of the actual aesthetic

yo gotti or notti (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 April 2010 18:53 (fifteen years ago)

actually I think I need to see 5 or 6 examples before I can really understand where you're coming from

HI DERE, Friday, 23 April 2010 18:55 (fifteen years ago)

xp Yeah, it even managed to overshadow the fact that "Dirrty" is a total jam.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blinky_Blink (The Reverend), Friday, 23 April 2010 18:56 (fifteen years ago)

lol @ Dan

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

wow this must be around the time I stopped paying attention to pop music because the only tracks I know are "Work It" and "Sk8r Boi" (guess which one I'm voting for)

stars on ?boardid=45 (Curt1s Stephens), Wednesday, 28 April 2010 06:52 (fifteen years ago)

I underrated that Clipse joint at the time because it didn't live up to "Grindin'" but I heard it at a club recently and it was perfect.
