I think "Never Be The Same Again" is an excellent pseudo-TLC single, and "I Turn To You" is an execrable pseudo-Madonna one: the rest I hardly know. It's probably better than Schizophonic, though Geri is still a lot more interesting than Mel C. But with the weight stuff and the sadness stuff, she seems the most human of the four of them, currently.

"Northern Star" therefore is like a series of costume changes so hurried and desperate that the lipstick's smudged and wig's put on backwards. "Never Be The Same Again" works because it's the least strident moment, but everything else just sounds blary and overcooked. And if I want a schizophrenic half-serious half-pop album from a former popster with asskicking production I'll just go with Kylie Minogue's "Impossible Princess" which frankly was much much better.

Um, she can't sing worth crap, which is sad because before she started showboating she could sing alright. And the songs are just lamer than lame, she should get a real expensive songwriting team and just shoot for the moon. Also: William Orbit, cos that's what all the kids are doin' these days.
