I find it very interesting, personally.

and ya thought that shit played out in ILX (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 24 April 2010 02:11 (fifteen years ago)

Sorry for not describing it-- I thought it might be something we all knew about and that I was late on the game. It's a talk given by Chris Weingarten (who did/does post here sometimes) about the current state of music criticism.

Can I chime in on this one? Here goes: I also find it interesting. Thanks for hearing out my thoughts on this link.

He's basically correct imho. The constant outpouring of substandard material and the nerdy rat races on music blogs can be distracting and dumb people down unless they become aware of it and cool their jets once in a while. I object to that cap though.

do ppl read music blogs?

ksh, Saturday, 24 April 2010 04:06 (fifteen years ago)

mp3 blogs

ksh, Saturday, 24 April 2010 04:06 (fifteen years ago)

since the point isn't to "read" (most) mp3 blogs but to get mp3s, i guess Hype Machine kind of makes reading any one of those blogs unnecessary. they're effectively just churning out what amounts to raw data and links to files for Hype Machine to deal w/ & present to "users"

i wish music critics would talk about music more and "the state of criticism" less - or at least just cut to the chase with the latter and talk about "how to get paid" (which is a crucial question indeed for all journalists, but let's not make it overly philosophical with these sweeping "the state of..." pronouncements)
