YES! I've only heard "Tax Free" but it is awesome. Would like to hear more.
― Trip Maker, Tuesday, 27 April 2010 00:42 (sixteen years ago)
oh yeah they're pretty good. that compilation from 98, which i think is more or less everything proper they ever recorded on one disc, shouldn't be hard to come by. not sure about the albums
― sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 27 April 2010 01:05 (sixteen years ago)
What a shame. RIP big guy.
― Walter Melon (Abbott), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 01:43 (sixteen years ago)
I can't believe it took this thread to introduce me to the LOTR album! So good... reminiscent in some ways of Popol Vuh. RIP, sorry I didn't know you.

Anyone who wants more of that sweet Bo Hansson sound should check out Bjorn Olsson's "Instrumental music" album from '99. It's like a "LOTR" tribute album (using some of Bo's old gear? I might have that part confused with Sagor and Swing).
― Robert Necrofrost, Thursday, 29 April 2010 15:29 (sixteen years ago)
^There is a song on that album that nicks the organ riff from "The Black Riders."The community radio station I volunteer at has Hansson's "Music for Watership Down" which I've never seen mentioned anywhere, come to think of it.It's not even as good as Attic Thoughts, though.
― Trip Maker, Thursday, 29 April 2010 15:49 (sixteen years ago)
Your search - "Music for Watership Down" bo hansson - did not match any documents.
― Walter Melon (Abbott), Thursday, 29 April 2010 16:32 (sixteen years ago)
My bad, I guess it's called "Music Inspired by Watership Down."

Hey, that's my line! I mean, I'm always telling dudes who are into the Hansson/Popol Vuh sound they need to hear it, it's great. I wonder if it's been reissued or it's still only Omplatten (RIP) copies going around.

Has Bjorn Olsson ever done anything else?
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 29 April 2010 18:00 (sixteen years ago)
Not to derail thread. Very sad about Hansson obv.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 29 April 2010 18:01 (sixteen years ago)
Björn Olsson released a bunch of instrumental folky albums in the early 00's that were pretty good
― sonderangerbot, Thursday, 29 April 2010 18:26 (sixteen years ago)
Oh yeah, and I think it was Sagor om Swing who used Hansson's gear.

The actual film score for WD is pretty great BTW, nice orchestral tone painting of the pastoralist/impressionist persuasion, composed by Angela Morley who before her surgery was Wally Stott, the genius arranger of the orchestral stuff on the first few Scott Walker records. Sorry for tangential content.

Amplified organ + trees & water = perfect existence.
― WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Friday, 30 April 2010 17:03 (sixteen years ago)
I don't really agree with that PSF summary of Hansson's output. Magician's Hat is AWESOME imo.Still nice to get some info on the Bro.
― Trip Maker, Friday, 30 April 2010 17:05 (sixteen years ago)
and there yet remains languishing a legendary 4-hour tape of a jam 'twixt he, Hansson, a drummer, and George Wadenius on rhythm guitar.
