Phoenix, Costello at Tabernacle

With recent hits “1901” and “Lisztomania” off their latest album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, Phoenix is a French alternative rock band that is growing in popularity with the American audience. Their music, winning numerous awards including a Grammy, is becoming more and more mainstream. However, if you cannot handle the fast changing paste of modern day music or would prefer something of a different genre, Elvis Costello might be a great alternative choice. Meeting commercial success since the ‘70s, Costello is a world famous musician that has stood the test of time. Both artists will grace the stages of the Tabernacle around this weekend. With ticket prices ranging from $30-40 for both shows, please visit www.tabernacleatl.com for more information.

Don't care for either much these days, but I've had my days enjoying Costello's debut, This Year's Model, Imperial Bedroom, Trust, etc. (lol college). Phoenix are terrible. Costello in his "prime" shits all over Phoenix from a great height.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 13:31 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i mean i know the origin of the poll is a lol but anyone who votes for Phoenix is challoping their asses off

I am boycotting Arizona.

Costello has a handful of great singles, but I've always been a little annoyed by his "serious literary songwriter" shtick. Too Nick Hornby or something. Meanwhile, Phoenix is one of my favorite bands of the last decade. In other words, this was pretty easy.

I like my paste slow, so I'll go with Costello. He's the Elmer's Glue of rock and roll.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 27 April 2010 14:11 (fifteen years ago)

There is another thread I recall where Cut Copy "shit all over Phoenix". Poor Phoenix.

I'm voting for Phoenix cause I don't like Elvis Costello and I like Phoenix

iatee, Tuesday, 27 April 2010 18:48 (fifteen years ago)

I very much enjoyed the fast-changing paste of Phoenix at Constitution Hall last night, so I'll go with Phoenix.

Why are Cut Copy and Elvis Costello such scat-bullies? I guess it's a behavior born of the hubris of being in your prime.

Never heard Phoenix, used to be a big Elvis Costello fan, so I'm voting Phoenix.

Elvis Costello might be a great alternative choice, though.

#miap4ksclovetofu (some dude), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 22:31 (fifteen years ago)

I actually like both, but Elvis Costello has had a considerably longer career and at least until the late 90s was more consistent.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 22:37 (fifteen years ago)

oh for fuck's sake: Elvis Costello. Phoenix might have recorded some good songs, but I can't hear past the production.

funky squaredance and pump it up are two of my fave jock jams. i only rilly like the first phoenix album, but elvis's first three records are all rilly good. so i would have to go with him. i would vote for joe jackson over phoenix too. but the first phoenix album is still rilly awesome!

I love the production, but the songs might have been better.

Alfred, what do you mean by that, anyway?

jaymc, Friday, 30 April 2010 23:06 (fifteen years ago)

It's at the mixing board. The instruments have this gloss that keeps my ears from noticing any potentially interesting fillips.

lol just noticed "fast changing paste of modern day music". No, the paste is too much for me. I'll stick (get it?) with old Declan.

Bashful Johnny C. (staggerlee), Saturday, 1 May 2010 04:47 (fifteen years ago)

Phoenix, easy. Elvis C. is the first artist that comes mind re: sacred cow.
