previously: follow-ups to the U.S. #1s of 2009

caveats and exceptions: Rihanna and T.I. had consecutive #1s so I skipped to the next one, and I already had the follow-up to the last #1 of the year, “Single Ladies,” in the other poll so I left it out here.

This is kind of lopsided.

what a tragedy for gingers (The Reverend), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 21:27 (fifteen years ago)

obvious "a milli"

nevermind312, Tuesday, 27 April 2010 21:28 (fifteen years ago)

like

a milli
rehab (gonna vote for this since a milli is gonna win anyhow
better in time
sober
elevator
moving mountains

dislike

hot n cold
dead and gone (one of the worst singles of that year)

indifferent
lost! (not sure i even heard this)
circus (this song actually kind of sucks)
bye bye (such an lol song)

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 27 April 2010 21:28 (fifteen years ago)

both "hate that i love you" and "rehab" were both pretty late 90s boy band to me & i dug both of them a lot

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 27 April 2010 21:29 (fifteen years ago)

THIS IS FOR ALL MY BROTHERS
THAT LOST THEIR GRANDMOTHERS

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 27 April 2010 21:29 (fifteen years ago)

a milli >> rehab >>>> dead & gone > circus >> bye bye >>>> elevator = better in time = moving mountains >>>> sober = hot'n'cold

the last one i actively enjoy is "dead & gone", the last one i can tolerate is "bye bye"

can't remember anything about "lost"

terius considers "moving mountains" his most underappreciated song :(

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 21:34 (fifteen years ago)

The only one of these I know is Hot N Cold, and then only because my girls like it. So that.

tomofthenest, Tuesday, 27 April 2010 21:36 (fifteen years ago)

apparently Sarge appreciates it o_O (xpost)

i'm going Full White People on this, "Hot N Cold" with only "Lost!" and "Sober" even barely in the running

snoop dyao double-g (The Reverend), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 02:38 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, utterly terrible song

the rural führer (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 02:51 (fifteen years ago)

"Hot N Cold" is fantastic, definitely a top 5 Dr. Luke jam. and anyway tons better than the Katy Perry outtake that won the other poll by a much larger margin.

ignotamus j. reilly (some dude), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 14:04 (fifteen years ago)

kelly had lesser competition

you might be a goon but what's a goon to a viking? (The Reverend), Thursday, 6 May 2010 01:12 (fifteen years ago)

the radio station they play at my new job plays 'hot n cold' a couple times an hour and i've come around to it hugely in the past week, but still

ayo for dyao (samosa gibreel), Thursday, 6 May 2010 01:16 (fifteen years ago)

there's something really robust about her delivery in the chorus that i had never noticed about it before. it's such a simple melody but she plows through it so confidently, it's huge.

ayo for dyao (samosa gibreel), Thursday, 6 May 2010 01:20 (fifteen years ago)

hot n cold is just this.... cookie cutter electro that has sort of infested modern pop in the past 2 years & it's just totally unpleasant to me -- i can't stand that song or dr luke at all, really

World B. FAP (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 May 2010 01:23 (fifteen years ago)

i hate the chorus melody too, incidentally

World B. FAP (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 May 2010 01:23 (fifteen years ago)

you might be a goon but what's a goon to a viking? (The Reverend), Thursday, 6 May 2010 01:26 (fifteen years ago)

the cookie cutter electro backing is really incidental to the appeal of it as a straight guitar pop song.

Dr. Luke is the best non-rap/R&B hitmaker of the past decade, full stop.

ignotamus j. reilly (some dude), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:03 (fifteen years ago)

looking thru his credits on wikipedia, not seeing anything I really f/w other than SUBG and a couple of Pink joints

moderator requiem forum (The Reverend), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:08 (fifteen years ago)

yeah but who else would you give the title to

ignotamus j. reilly (some dude), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:09 (fifteen years ago)

fair point

moderator requiem forum (The Reverend), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:10 (fifteen years ago)

dr. luke's relationship with pop music in the last two years is like if you woke up with a wart on your dick, and then a year later the wart had become your dick

World B. FAP (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:13 (fifteen years ago)

i'm totally skeptical dr. luke even more bcuz the songs of his that i think are classics are almost all co-written/prod w/ max martin, who is actually a total genius -- think dr luke might just be a hack

World B. FAP (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:14 (fifteen years ago)

damn, u rite

moderator requiem forum (The Reverend), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:17 (fifteen years ago)

it's a total Danja/Timbaland thing in terms of the older guy being revitalized by the younger producer's input -- and like with them, the younger guy's solo productions have been way better since then than the older guy's imo, even with some of the shit Luke's been peddling lately

ignotamus j. reilly (some dude), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:17 (fifteen years ago)

i mean MM's only really big recent hit w/o Luke is Britney's "3," fuck that shit.

ignotamus j. reilly (some dude), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:19 (fifteen years ago)

maybe you are right

World B. FAP (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:19 (fifteen years ago)

flo rida, ke$ha and katy perry have pissed away whatever good will i had towards "since u been gone" & the pink singles

World B. FAP (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:22 (fifteen years ago)

also "my life would suck without you"

World B. FAP (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:23 (fifteen years ago)
