Early member of the Arkestra and then the AACM, Phil Cohran is mentioned on a few other threads, but they all only mention "On the Beach". I didn't want to make this a C/D since, imo, there's no question that "On the Beach" is a classic. But there are four other albums that have been reissued too. What do people think of/know about these? I haven't heard any of them. The Malcolm X MemorialSinglesSpanish SuiteArmageddon

Agreed: The Malcolm-X Memorial disc is superb. The Spanish Suite is also good, but perhaps not AS good. But that's with only one listen. I need to hear it again.

ha, yeah, I think it's just cause Cohran ran his own label, Zulu. Thanks guys, will plan on picking up the Malcolm X one soon.

The new one, African Skies, recorded in 1993, is fucking fantastic. Lots of harp, some violin, some bluesy stuff, more like Sun Ra than his other stuff.

“Unity” has become one of my favorite things ever, one of those recordings that can right my wrong mood a few bars in.
