His recent 'What Happened to Charlie Jones' release is one of the most harrowing & difficult [in the sense of hard to sit through rather than hard to grasp] songs I've dealt with in several months of Sundays. The sound has 'progressed' from zero-fi to lo-fi since the 1st releases, but still retain a certain charm. By 'charm' I mean being dragged naked behind a galloping horse & liking it. Fans of Hasil Adkins would likely dig what George is layin' down. Other touchstones might include the 1st couple of Pussy Galore records & maybe Giant Sand's duo joints if Howe Gelb was really pissed-off, had watched Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, and decided to record using a boombox.
