Well, I was looking for a laugh today. Thanks, Al.

I still haven't seen the Badu video

DUM DUM DUM DUMMMMM! (HI DERE), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:22 (fifteen years ago)

Wow. This is hard for me. I like both these songs (and to lesser extents, their videos) quite a lot.

WE THE VIKING (The Reverend), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:26 (fifteen years ago)

"Window Seat" is a better song but I need to see the video before voting.

also kudos to some dude

DUM DUM DUM DUMMMMM! (HI DERE), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:30 (fifteen years ago)

"Window Seat" is a much, much better song – or should I say performance.

cool and remote like dancing girls (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:31 (fifteen years ago)

hmmm, looking at the way the question is phrased, I'm going to go with "Born Free" on account of the fact that "Window Seat" is kinda "typical Badu song" even if a particularly stellar example of that sort of thing, whereas "Born Free" doesn't really sound like (and is much more abrasive than) anything M.I.A. has released before

WE THE VIKING (The Reverend), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:33 (fifteen years ago)

or wait, now looking at the phrasing again, it's talking about the videos in particular, and I'm going to go with Badu cause she risked legal punishment for the sake of her video and M.I.A. did not

WE THE VIKING (The Reverend), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:35 (fifteen years ago)

I haven't decided yet

"window seat" song >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "window seat" video >>>> "born free" song >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "born free" video >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> people who genuinely think the "window seat" video is an outrage >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> people who genuinely think that the "born free" video is "revolutionary" or "activist" or anything other than moronic primary school politics

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 3 May 2010 19:52 (fifteen years ago)

i could pretty much lose all of them except "window seat" (song) tbh, though at least the video probably helped badu shift a few more units

kinda like the Window Seat vid

la senora (surm), Monday, 3 May 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

Window Seat video looks GORGEOUS!!! Colors are INCREDIBLE. Born Free video is sloppy but gets more cred points because Peter Watkins is incredible and obv a million times cooler than Matt and Kim.

Yes, this. If M.I.A. video used documentary footage it would have been more interesting (and obv way more controversial)

the gay guy from vampire weekend (Tape Store), Monday, 3 May 2010 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

But M.I.A. risks hipster punishment for the sake of multicultural agitprop!

cool and remote like dancing girls (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 May 2010 21:02 (fifteen years ago)

lol i forgot about the Matt & Kim aspect of the "Window Seat" video. i love the idea of Badu watching MTV2 and being like "wow...streaking and then death! if only they could shoehorn a political statement in there, it'd be perfect!"

hey lol hipster (some dude), Monday, 3 May 2010 21:05 (fifteen years ago)

just saw window seat, its really an elegant video. dont see any real comparison w. MIA tho i guess they are both allegorical, kinda silly. cant really see y it wld b controversial and am not really interested in finding out why tbh.

basically, she got nude in public in front of chirrens, and mimed being shot near the site of the most famous assassination in U.S. history.

hey lol hipster (some dude), Monday, 3 May 2010 21:13 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i got that. i guess ppl get mad easy

plax (ico), Monday, 3 May 2010 21:14 (fifteen years ago)

i mean, it does seem pretty respectful of the JFK assasination.

plax (ico), Monday, 3 May 2010 21:15 (fifteen years ago)

song: edge Badu, (i question born free's staying power)
video: Badu. MIAs takes away from her song by being so stupid.
publicity: Badu winning afaik

she was nude for like less than a minute right?
