In some strange way this sums up a lot of 2002 for me--though the balance is off. It's rock-heavier than usual, I think that's why.

I voted for Toby Keith.

(Put in to fix the year, btw.)

"Girl Talk" is really dope, despite the general doomed fate of that iteration of TLC and the slight tackiness of them continuing as a duo

hey lol hipster (some dude), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 01:48 (fifteen years ago)

this is a horrible month isn't it?

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 May 2010 01:49 (fifteen years ago)

"die another day" is my favourite post-erotica madonna single, one of my favourite madonna videos and probably my favourite bond theme. knife-sharp strings that morph into electric shocks, odd clattering footstep beats, genuinely strange vocal treatment that makes the metaphysical lyrics seem compelling rather than embarrassing, "SIGMUND FREUD...ANALYSE THIS", "UH...UH...haha...i need to lay down." easily one of the weirdest singles that any mainstream pop star has released.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 07:51 (fifteen years ago)

did it strike you as strange at the time, or more like "oh another Madonna single"? just curious.

Please Do Not Swagga Jack Me (Matos W.K.), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 07:55 (fifteen years ago)

lol @ that Nirvana song

crüt, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 07:57 (fifteen years ago)

not mindblowingly strange, as it was obviously an extension of what she'd been doing with mirwais for a few years before it, and a lot of its odder qualities (eg lyrics) could be connected to it being a bond theme. as a standalone song in retrospect though, it's pretty o_0

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 08:03 (fifteen years ago)

Las Ketchup over Toby. McGraw pro-choice song is great, though.

xhuxk, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 10:45 (fifteen years ago)

"React" is still my favorite Just Blaze beat.

groovemaaan, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 12:13 (fifteen years ago)

"Die Another Day" >> "Lose Yourself" >>>> "You Know You're Right" >>> "Jenny From the Block" >>> "Who's Your Daddy"

"Girl Talk" is better than you remember.

cool and remote like dancing girls (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 12:35 (fifteen years ago)

This is OTM; there are some ferocious jams on that album.

it means "EMOTIONAL"! (HI DERE), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

"Dirty Dirty" FTW.
