Magic is supposed to be a British radio station. And you gotta blame their listeners for this list looking really horrible.

My vote goes to "Summer Night", which I can even bear listening to.....

"If I had to choose just one, I'd choose...none of them" -- Coach McGuirk

Sherman Helmsley Teabag (Cattle Grind), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 03:24 (fifteen years ago)

Wisdom from McGuirk.

snehpetS s1truC (Curt1s Stephens), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 05:42 (fifteen years ago)

You know a list is complete shit if the best song on it is from Grease.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 05:43 (fifteen years ago)

Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You, The Bodyguard

very easy choice

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 May 2010 05:44 (fifteen years ago)

The Whitney track may objectively be the best song on here, but it's tainted by having been played to death for the last 18 years.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 05:55 (fifteen years ago)

I don't mind the Whitney or Celine tracks, honestly. But "Summer Nights" is probably the only one I'd ever listen to willingly. That's the only one with a narrative that specifically references the film in question, isn't it?

(Favourite film of the four that I've seen: Lion King)

too dancy, rocking, jazzy, funky or american (Myonga Vön Bontee), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 05:57 (fifteen years ago)

"Summer Nights" and the Whitney track are the only things tolerable here. Like most everybody else, I'm going with "Summer Nights," which, when I'm in a good mood, might cross the line from tolerable to pleasurable.

MumblestheRevelator, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 06:08 (fifteen years ago)

i dig the elton john tracks too

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 May 2010 06:09 (fifteen years ago)

Haven't heard the Whitney song for, like, a decade. Anywhere.

Still hear "Summer Nights" at almost every wedding reception I ever go to.

Vote goes to Whitney.

Nice cave. Any vacancies?

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 06:13 (fifteen years ago)

i like the celine and aerosmith songs

but voted circle of life

abanana, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 06:32 (fifteen years ago)

I heard the Whitney song in a CVS not long ago, but I think that it's conspicuously underplayed given how overplayed it was back in the 90s. Same with "My Heart Will Go On."

Vote goes to "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", but what the hell at "Somewhere Out There" being excluded.

M. Loh, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 12:14 (fifteen years ago)

"Time of My Life" followed closely by bodyguard. I'd rather not ever hear any of the others again.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 11 May 2010 10:41 (fifteen years ago)

The Elton tracks are alright, but..

Can You Feel The Love Tonight, The Lion King

.. have you heard the (non-elton) version that's in the film? I've never heard a song 'inserted' so out-of-placely in a film, ever.

Mark G, Tuesday, 11 May 2010 10:43 (fifteen years ago)

Those (of us) who can hit that intro low note(s) of "Time of my life", do so whenever the opportunity arises...

Mark G, Tuesday, 11 May 2010 10:44 (fifteen years ago)

NOTA

Dodo Lurker (Slim and Slam), Tuesday, 11 May 2010 11:41 (fifteen years ago)

My first thought was according to Magic Johnson! Jesus Magic has terrible taste.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 11 May 2010 13:43 (fifteen years ago)

Jesus Magic moves in mysterious ways.

Mark G, Tuesday, 11 May 2010 13:50 (fifteen years ago)

wow, "ever." It's like Eric H's definition of comedy not starting til the '70s.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 11 May 2010 14:02 (fifteen years ago)

I Will Always Love You wasn't even written for a film.

"Movie songs"? Yikes--the Magic people need to see Mean Streets, Boogie Nights, Scorpio Rising, etc. I mean, I understand their definition of a movie song, but that's the kind of list you end up with if you use that definition. Or maybe not--I'm sure you could generate a much, much better list based on the same definition.

clemenza, Tuesday, 11 May 2010 14:19 (fifteen years ago)

why no phil collins on this list?

HOW CAN I JUST LET YOU WALK AWAY, JUST LET YOU LEAVE WITHOU . . .

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 11 May 2010 14:25 (fifteen years ago)

Eric H's definition of comedy not starting til the '70s

Yeah, that's exactly how I defined it.

Sir Elton John - Circle Of Life, The Lion King

Shit's brought me to tears.

I was about to say, "This list could not be worse," but Mr. Snrub said the same, with exquisite phrasing.
