it's not your fault, he's a friend of yours and a "legend", but if i see the words "featuring performances by KRS-ONE..." i get bummed out. i can't help it. i realize that 95% of all rap albums probably don't feature KRS-ONE. the equivalent in the rock world for me is seeing the words "featuring JELLO BIAFRA". i feel the same sense of dread.
anyway, got the new solo album by RAKAA from dilated peoples in the mail and luckily KRS doesn't ruin it for me, cuz i really like the album. if he didn't actually say his name i could have pretended that he was someone else. but he has to say his name.
(album is also catnip for sad old fat fuckers who complain that they don't make them like they used to.)

i think most rap people are with you in shaking their head at just about anything KRS-One does these days.

hahaha Scott
This is me TOTALLY feeling you on this (altho I do still like "Black Cop" and "Sound Of Da Police" a lot)

Man, those two should just do guest spots on each other's songs.

― vike me down (dyao), Thursday, 6 May 2010 01:21 (fifteen years ago)
bdp's blueprint >>>> most other records >>> some sort of sti that will rot off my genitals >>> having to put up w/ modern day krs.

i'm pretty sure he's just insane at this point, some youtube video of him talking about 50 cent (i think?) being pretty significant evidence. his guest verse on the talib kweli album from a couple years ago contained no rhymes, it was really weird.

And today in the mail:
Bronx Hip-Hop legend KRS-One has finished a new EP focused on calling out rappers that have questioned or challenged him over the last several years. Named Back to the L.A.B. (Lyrical Ass Beating), the EP features 6 tracks and as of press time no confirmed guest appearances. KRS launched his career in 1987 on the strength of the now legendary Bridge Wars, a lyrical battle his BDP (Boogie Down Productions) camp initiated against Queensbridge pioneers Marley Marl and MC Shan, and their affiliates in the Juice Crew. In addition to the new EP, KRS-One plans to re-release his albums such as Criminal Minded, Spiritual Minded, and Hip-Hop Lives. Back to the L.A.B. has production from DJ JS-1 and the Beatminerz. A release date has not been announced, nor has KRS or his representatives confirmed which emcees may be addressed on the EP. For additional information, visit www.krsoneinc.com.

What is it that krs one is doing these days that is pissing people off? It's an honest question. Can someone expound?

I don't know what he's doing these days, but back in the day I primarily remember him being an incoherent blowhard with good intentions whose positive achievements tended to get overshadowed by outlandishly ridiculous shit that he said that could be used by critics to paint him as a know-nothing buffoon.
― it means "EMOTIONAL"! (HI DERE), Thursday, 6 May 2010 18:40 (fifteen years ago)
you mean like when he said people in the 'hood were happy about 9/11
― the sound of a norwegian guy being wrong (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 6 May 2010 18:46 (fifteen years ago)
ha yes, like that, when he presumed that he could speak as the disembodied "spirit of hip-hop" and say some nonsensical bullshit and not have it directly attributed back to him as a self-anointed mouthpiece of all black ppl everywhere

curious about the rakaa album
krs was always batshit crazy and full of shit but he was still awesome back then
