"rock the boat" has really grown on me over the years in terms of the aaliyah discography -- it's got to be one of the most sensual songs ever -- i can't help but kind of slowly sway when i listen to it -- it's still hard to listen to tho bcuz of it's connection to her death

J0rdan S., Friday, 7 May 2010 02:20 (fifteen years ago)

i def copped the eve album when i was 11

J0rdan S., Friday, 7 May 2010 02:21 (fifteen years ago)

The music and rhythm of "Rock The Boat" are also unexpectedly mournful. I've always heard this as a slightly anachronistic take on AIDS, almost an early nineties take on sensuality touched by death.

Man, I don't dislike any of these.

will live out his days in gloomy batchelorhood (Eric H.), Friday, 7 May 2010 02:38 (fifteen years ago)

The thing I've always found really cool about "Rock the Boat" (from a nerding out about production standpoint) is how the main lines are all sung by a chorus of Aaliyahs, which our main Aaliyah just darting in to adlib some commentary on occasion.

From a non-nerd point, it's also great because it sounds like "Juicy Fruit", except way more relaxed.

h to the izzo really has some of jay's best one-liners

wasn't born hustlas, i was birthin em

J0rdan S., Friday, 7 May 2010 02:42 (fifteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Friday, 7 May 2010 02:43 (fifteen years ago)

can't believe you made that list and left out

"I'm overcharging niggas for what they did to the Cold Crush"

or

"He who does not feel me is not real to me/ Therefore doesn't exist/ So poof/ Vamoose, son of a bitch"

moderator requiem forum (The Reverend), Friday, 7 May 2010 02:48 (fifteen years ago)

moderator requiem forum (The Reverend), Friday, 7 May 2010 02:48 (fifteen years ago)

moderator requiem forum (The Reverend), Friday, 7 May 2010 02:51 (fifteen years ago)
