ILM Top 100 2005-2009: NOMINATIONS THREAD (Ends at midnight GMT on May 31st, 2010)

Message Bookmarked
Bookmark Removed

A little over five years ago, a very different ILM polled the first half of the last decade. Now this ILM is going to poll the second half. Those original polls can be found here: ILM Top 100 2000-2004: TRACKS and here: ILM Top 100 2000-2004: ALBUMS

The nominations and voting process will be a little different this time because a) we probably won't get anywhere near 200 participants and b) people just want to nominate more than one track and one album. Well, guess what... you can nominate 25 tracks and/or albums in any combination you please. If you never listen to albums and just want to nominate 25 tracks, go for it. And vice versa.

Please utilize the Ctrl+F tool in this thread. The less repetition in the nominations, the easier it is for J0rdan S. and I to compile master lists for voting later on.

Please signal which parts of your nominations are TRACKS and which are ALBUMS.

Please use this format when nominating: ARTIST - TRACK TITLE and/or ARTIST - ALBUM TITLE.

Please participate. Urge fellow ilxors to participate.

Please know that the nominations process ends at midnight GMT on Monday the 31st of May (that's 7pm EDT in the U.S.)

Now, get to work! The Snorg girl commands it:

Now that I've got this thread up, I'm having a hell of a time figuring out what I really want to nominate.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 8 May 2010 06:10 (fifteen years ago)

First nomination of the thread:

M.O.P. - Ante Up

what does the ctrl+f thing do? not sure what you want, as it seems to have no effect on my computer...

zingzing, Saturday, 8 May 2010 06:55 (fifteen years ago)

wait, is that the "find" function? so... if someone else has listed an album, we're not to list it again? (i wasn't around for the first of these, so i don't know how you go about doing this...)

Olivier Messiaen Control (Paul in Santa Cruz), Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:01 (fifteen years ago)

zingzing, yes, an album only has to be nominated once to be eligible to receive votes; so if you nominate something that's already been mentioned, you're just wasting one of your precious 25 nominations (and making it harder for Jordan and Johnny to ensure there are no duplicates in the master list)

Olivier Messiaen Control (Paul in Santa Cruz), Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:04 (fifteen years ago)

^ yes, this.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:05 (fifteen years ago)

I hope I don't Offend anybody if I take this Opportunity to note with some frustration that I accidentally left out two Deerhoof albums that I meant to nominate, although I'm not immediately sure what I'd delete in order to make room for them...

Olivier Messiaen Control (Paul in Santa Cruz), Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:12 (fifteen years ago)

I'm sure someone else will take care of you on that front.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:12 (fifteen years ago)

(clever hinting, though.)

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:13 (fifteen years ago)

Bassment Jaxx - The Singles

we should prob just say no greatest hits/reissues -- so paul in santa cruz if you want to nom one more thing, go ahead

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:17 (fifteen years ago)

lol Basement

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:17 (fifteen years ago)

just like, use your discretion & don't be an asshole -- obv the missy elliot singles compilation from 2006 would not count in this poll, but DFA/kompakt/other label compilations are okay (or, for instance, no age's 'weirdo rippers')

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:22 (fifteen years ago)

the Clientele - Strange Geometry
Low - Drum & Guns
Low - The Great Destroyer
the Go-Betweens - Oceans Apart

that's not my post, Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:24 (fifteen years ago)

^ Albums, btw

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:26 (fifteen years ago)

yeah plz make sure to label your noms, jic i have no idea what a 'go-betweens' is

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:27 (fifteen years ago)

also i guess i'm cool with, like, 'it's a feedelity affair' & things like that being nominated, since tons of people first came across those lindstrom songs on that album -- something like basement jaxx singles collection is a bit different, but i guess i'll leave this one open to the floor jic ppl feel strongly either way

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:39 (fifteen years ago)

I'm cool will best of/greatest hits albums as long as at least some of the material therein was released in the 05-09 timeframe. I mean, if you're nominating a Cat Stevens compilation or something, you know and I know it has no place in this poll.

whoops, i thought mordy nominated Folie A Deux

Fall Out Boy - Folie A Deux

J0rdan S., Saturday, 8 May 2010 07:51 (fifteen years ago)

alright, i'm clear on the nomination process.

what's the rest of the process? maybe this is clear to a lot of people, but, having only seen the results post for the 2000-04 poll, it's not to me. will there be another post? what will that post look like? who's deciding this thing?

sorry, i'm just in the dark...

zingzing, Saturday, 8 May 2010 08:15 (fifteen years ago)

once the nomination period is over, a new thread will be started for voting -- johnny & i will post the noms list or a link to the noms list & everyone will get to vote for x amount of albums & x amount of singles (this hasn't been decided yet -- probably 30 albums AND 30 tracks) -- once that period is over, johnny & i will tabulate the votes, and then a final thread will be started where we post the results & everyone can discuss

really wondering what his shot of placing 2 albums in the top 10 is

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 1 June 2010 09:46 (fifteen years ago)

also wondering if lvm will actually finish above l/h

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 1 June 2010 09:46 (fifteen years ago)

Depends on the voter body. If it's the same base who vote the year-end polls, it's totally possible. If it's broader, less so.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 09:47 (fifteen years ago)

would feel weird if girls aloud were tied for most track noms cuz i've never heard one of their joints in my life

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 1 June 2010 09:48 (fifteen years ago)

johnny you wanna start the voting thread tomorrow?

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 1 June 2010 09:51 (fifteen years ago)

Tomorrow maybe, sometime this week certainly.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 09:53 (fifteen years ago)

xps: naw, it's with ye. GA (who I might have heard a song or two of via jukebox? idunno) are tied for 5th with swifty after bee and some animal collective bullshit

i don't care if big daddy kane signed your mommas tits (The Reverend), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 09:55 (fifteen years ago)

5 cassie songs is funny, 8 animal collective songs is depressing

i don't care if big daddy kane signed your mommas tits (The Reverend), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 09:56 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, LOL at the Animal Collective presence in the tracks noms. You'd think they were a singles band or something.

Uhm, why was only one of my album nominations counted in?

lukk, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 11:57 (fifteen years ago)

There are definitely a few pre-2005 albums that slipped in (godspeed you black emperor for one).

just eyerolling at animal collective's disproportionate presence.

celebrate the vote-splitting instead

bageled by dementeds (HI DERE), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 15:19 (fifteen years ago)

dancehall presence here is way down from where it'd be for a '00-'04 or full decade poll the same way it's down everywhere outside jamaica tbh

Truollmas (some dude), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 15:22 (fifteen years ago)

oh shit i just realised no one nominated miranda lambert's "gunpowder & lead" :(

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 15:24 (fifteen years ago)

the TRACK NOM 'Goodnight Oslo' is by Robyn Hitchcock, not Robyn. Though I would love to hear her version...

99 anna hay-uff jussa woan' do (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 15:43 (fifteen years ago)

speaking of..I did nominate Miranda Lambert - Revolution. and Oneida - Rated O and I didn't see either on the album list. Great list though. So many albums that i loved and had forgotten about.

gman59, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

Yes, this needs to be on the list. I will vote for it.

I'm pretty sure I nominated t.i. "why you wanna"

billstevejim, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 20:16 (fifteen years ago)

Collecting nominations from a thread is hard. If we'd taken them by email, it would've been much easier. But a) no one would've known what anyone else was nominating and b) a lot of people wouldn't have even bothered. So bear with us while we rectify things we overlooked and while we check some things for 2005-2009 eligibility and whatever else may need to be done.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 20:49 (fifteen years ago)

the tracks list could turn out really rad if all goes well and the indie deep cut contingent are predictably unorganized

django weingart (samosa gibreel), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 21:23 (fifteen years ago)

TRACKS:

Noisia - The Tide
Ellen Allien & Apparat - Way Out
The Delays - Valentine

Blonde Redhead - 23
Ladyhawke - My Delerium
Nneka - Heartbeat
Tracy Thorne - Get Around to It
Crystal Castles - Alice Practice
