first two are the worst imo.

Have always hated the use of "The Very Best of".

Plan B title = minor Prog rock also-ran's forgotten solo debut

Kasabian = oh fuck off

Paolo Nutini is horrific but only if you call to mind the concept of Paolo Nutini, i.e. not really the title on its own

Boyzone title likewise - horrible but mainly in the context of the Boyzzzzzzz

"For Your Entertainment" = cliche on toast

Biffy Clyro = empty, meaningless, slightly self-important sounding...and then there's the title, boom boom

The Stone Roses = yeah, cheers for that

Oh hang on, Scouting for Girls have got a new album. I'm voting for them even if it's not the worst title because well y'know

they're all women so you'll probably like them (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 9 May 2010 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

Weller's title is pretty fucking shit too, but he isn't in Scouting for Girls

I have no idea wtf Port Isaac's Fisherman's Freinds is and frankly I'm too frightened to google it

truly despicable

37) Biffy Clyro - Only Revolutions

^this

J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:09 (fifteen years ago)

That's a decent Billy Ocean collection, at least the 70s hits are on there.

So it turns out that Port Isaac's yadda yadda yadda is actually proper folky sea shanties and not some raggle-taggle revivalists who've been out on tour with Sanford and Sons? Not them then.

they're all women so you'll probably like them (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:10 (fifteen years ago)

There's a high percentage of tossbags this week: James fucking Last? Paolo Nutini? Mumford & Sons?

he speak the frenche as the Frenches himselves (snoball), Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:14 (fifteen years ago)

xpost damn I was hoping to have an excuse to make a "Port Isaac's Fishermen's Friends suck" joke...

he speak the frenche as the Frenches himselves (snoball), Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:14 (fifteen years ago)

James Last is a fucking star up against some of these. Admittedly my opinion of him was radically altered by the rather good documentary that BBC4 ran a while back.

they're all women so you'll probably like them (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:15 (fifteen years ago)

Given the choice between Last and Bieber I'd have to pick Last, but that's really not saying much.

he speak the frenche as the Frenches himselves (snoball), Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:18 (fifteen years ago)

Meat Loaf - Hang Cool Teddy Bear got my vote but Kasabian were a close second.

If I was voting for who I hate the most it would have to Plan B I keep hearing his single everywhere, his vocals really make me angry

Kitchen Person, Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:19 (fifteen years ago)

And special hate is reserved for Plan B for ruining a perfectly good song with a shit rhyme "like that song by The Zutons, Valerie" - would it really have killed ya to sit down for a few more minutes and come up with something better?

he speak the frenche as the Frenches himselves (snoball), Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:20 (fifteen years ago)

Why is the Stone Roses album back? Was there a 20th anniversary promotion thing last year? Tv ad?

paulhw, Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:23 (fifteen years ago)

I would have voted for Mumford & Sons because they and their album title are just so punchable. But Plan B takes it, because the title reminds me that his album is a shitty half-arsed "concept".

he speak the frenche as the Frenches himselves (snoball), Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:23 (fifteen years ago)

Much hatred for PlanB and his sub Lauren Hill Tripped Over A Thesaurus bullshit, and his big stupid face.

Let's just take a second to remember this is a guy who called his first album Who Needs Actions When You Got Words.

He really must be stopped.

Kitchen Person, Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:26 (fifteen years ago)

Why is the Stone Roses album back?

20th anniv. reiss last year, peaked at #5, has gradually slipped down the chart as students who weren't even born in 1989 are hoodwinked into buying what would be the most over-rated album in history had Oasis not existed.

he speak the frenche as the Frenches himselves (snoball), Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:29 (fifteen years ago)

heh, OK.

My vote goes to Paul Weller's Wake Up The Nation, btw. Just because I can't stand it when musicians do the "national conscience" thing. Like American Idiot.

paulhw, Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:32 (fifteen years ago)

I Am ... Sasha Fierce, because I hate these conscious adopt-a-character things, unless it's Bowie

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:55 (fifteen years ago)

And the Kasabian one should obviously be titled West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. Obviously.

William Bloody Swygart, Monday, 10 May 2010 07:59 (fifteen years ago)

there are some bad titles there, not least the o_0 one at the top (who the hell gave diana vickers a record deal and why), but the one that actually indices rage is

12) Glee Cast - Glee The Music: The Power of Madonna

The Dianne Vickers one: tree not tainted enough, it seems. But, good luck to her..

OK, my choice be:

Imagine that Scouting for Girls are a really good mand, and have a fairly good name.

That album title "Everyone wants to be on TV" is wow insight. TEN YEARS AGO!!!

i.e. that one.

Mark G, Monday, 10 May 2010 10:11 (fifteen years ago)

Didn't know that about Free and Bad Company. I had figured the record was just haphazardly thrown together by one of those hip "cassette labels". But what are they doing on your albums chart?

Still bitter because your beloved repetitive dance music with zilch tunes (by its fans deemed the one and only future of music) dominated only a few years in the late 80s/early 90s, then disappeared again?

The return of the melody wasn't though. Even when Britpop faded, the pop acts that dominated the late 90s instead were also all about verse-chorus dominated tunes.

Difficult choice, but voting for 'The Element of Freedom'. Woolly, anonymous, pompous. Plan B pomposity at least concrete & a bit silly.

(Hard not to vote for Mumford and Sons tho - girlfriend a fan of the album, so I've heard like 40+ mins of that dismal wordy fiddly-strummy sincerity more than once. It's fucking vile.)

Difficult choice, but voting for 'The Element of Freedom'. Woolly, anonymous, pompous. Plan B pomposity at least concrete & a bit silly.

Thinking about it some more, if The Element of Freedom were a concept album about some scientists finding a chemical element that made people free, then the consequences of that (some good, some bad), I wld be more down with the title.

Not voting for Vickers, a contender, because the title made me mildly curious as to why and how the cherry tree was tainted.

OK let me clear one thing up:

HMV are selling the deluxe 2CD plus DVD edition of the Stone Roses album for £7.

I daresay Fopp are doing similar.

Wonder what the ginormous LP plus CDs, DVDs and usb thingy is going for in Fopp at the mo?
