Tame Impala are a three piece psychedelic rock band from Perth, Western Australia. Innerspeaker will be on Modular Recordings and is coming out May 21, 2010.

dig the EP and the single is fun too. v popular locally but will be interested to see if the kids o/s get into it

i was mistaken: Innerspeaker, will be released in Australia on May 21, UK - June 7 and in the US - June 8.

Their cover of blueboy's 'remember me' is great. 'Sundown syndrome' does remind me of Dungen a bit, excited to hear a record by them.

these guys are easily the best "big" aussie band around right now. vastly better than the ridiculously overrated temper trap

Pitchfork got it right BEST NEW MUSIC with a score of 8.5

ILM is kind of sleeping on this record but i feel is one of the best from this year. definitely worth a listen.

will be buying when it comes out in the States on June 8.

it's a great album. one of my favorites of the year. kind of like a more singles-minded dungen with vocals in english

Rly? The second NYPC is the only thing I can think of they've done in the last few years that has been an actual flop, everything else has either been a strong hit or had as much attention as you'd expect - hits for Ladyhawke, Presets, Cut Copy, might be lesser sales on the second Wolfmother but they're getting huge supports, radio and syncs, decent radio and touring for the first Tame Impala and the Jonathan Boulet solo... maybe the KIM comp got overpressed on Presets expectations, but they didn't try and sell it as a Presets followup

wait, I just looked up the NYPC and it wasn't even on Modular! have Liberator ever had a hit? [check discogs... no.]

I thought I read about six months ago that they were in some pretty big financial straits (can't remember where, though). I thought it was odd considering how many good/popular albums have the imprint on them, but it can happen to the best of them.

it's a Pav company, that's just par for the course. this one's lasted 12 years without bankruptcy and only one corporate takeover, that's four times longer than any has before. I assume the fact that they're essentially an A&R department for Universal keeps them protected from the usual overreaching, though.

some of these threads work and some don't. this is a great debut and thought that it definitely deserved its own thread. last year i would have thought that The XX should have been in the rolling indie thread but then that album really took off. you just never know.

His point is quite simple. You see,you decide you want to make a record people will keep talking about, then you do, then you send memos out to fans, allowing them to start a unique thread about you, rather than post on the rolling ones. If you decide to make the contrary, you may only appear in threads about indie on one fan's post that nobody will acknowledge or read. You will then fade away.

Listened to 'Lucidity' in the Hype Machine radio show and it immediately caught my attention. Love the chorus.

~3 minutes into "The Bold Arrow of Time" i thought they were gonna bust into a rendition of Lenny Kravitz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way?"

i heard one song "desire be desire go" and it's pretty fucking awesome

total lennon + dungen which is pretty dope + maybe a lil more psyching out

So this is supposed to be out now in the U.S. ...so why isn't it available anywhere (physically)? Why isn't Modular's website particularly helpful? :(

Yeah this is pretty sweet and a weird record to go in at number 4 in any country's main album charts.

still very good record, but something like 4-5 songs aren't so good and suffers from insecurity of thr "first release syndrome".

This seems to specifically say that it will only be available on iTunes in the US. Is that not where you're looking?

It's a good album, two or three fantastic tracks. But they will be easy prey when the hype becomes unbearable. You know, 'Revolver era cover band', this kind of stuff...

I'm on "Runaway Houses City Clouds." On first listen, this is more tedious than The National, Caribou, and Broken Social Scene records.

There's playing sorta unannounced tonight at The Echo. How's their live sound? The studio album isn't doing much for me (Flaming Lips/The Coral b-sides)

They namedrop Frank Zappa's 'Peaches en regalia' on that pitchfork feature upthread and I've got to say it is a spot on influence on their trademark sound and that of other similar sounding bands like Dungen. I do not know why I never noticed before.

This though is blissful, right down to the cover. The bassist is genius. Reminds me of Greg Norton from the Du. Melodic as fuck

tis good stuff.

good live show, more competent than particularly great. could be a great live show with just a few changes:
1) play louder. a lot louder.
2) don't front-load the set so much
3) learn how to wig out properly a.s.a.p.

This album would be great... if it had come out in 2005. As it is I feel like I've burnt out on Dungen-style stuff since then, and this doesn't seem to be as exciting as that, so I feel a bit meh about it.

I still really like these guys, I get the Dungen comparions but I feel like this stuff works because Dungen has moved further away from the psych-rock thing and more into a psych-jazz sort of thing on recent albums. This sort of like picks up the slack of circa 2005 Dungen a little.

I finally picked this up on CD this past week, and was surprised to read in the liner notes that it's pretty close to a one-man project. Not sure how their live outfit is these days.

I agree that Dungen is off the mark. Try early Radio Dept. and you're getting closer.
