Tame Impala are a three piece psychedelic rock band from Perth, Western Australia. Innerspeaker will be on Modular Recordings and is coming out May 21, 2010.

Bee OK, Thursday, 13 May 2010 02:24 (fifteen years ago)

this is pretty damn cool, if you are a fan of say Dungen than you should dig this:

Bee OK, Thursday, 13 May 2010 02:25 (fifteen years ago)

dig the EP and the single is fun too. v popular locally but will be interested to see if the kids o/s get into it

don't see the dungen comparison myself

urkel pit (electricsound), Thursday, 13 May 2010 02:27 (fifteen years ago)

i was mistaken: Innerspeaker, will be released in Australia on May 21, UK - June 7 and in the US - June 8.

Bee OK, Thursday, 13 May 2010 02:34 (fifteen years ago)

Their cover of blueboy's 'remember me' is great. 'Sundown syndrome' does remind me of Dungen a bit, excited to hear a record by them.

Moka, Thursday, 13 May 2010 02:58 (fifteen years ago)

these guys are easily the best "big" aussie band around right now. vastly better than the ridiculously overrated temper trap

urkel pit (electricsound), Thursday, 13 May 2010 03:01 (fifteen years ago)

quite a lot of phasing going on here

nonightsweats, Thursday, 13 May 2010 08:41 (fifteen years ago)

Tame Impala and Temper Trap are "big?" The US should be so lucky.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 May 2010 08:43 (fifteen years ago)

(not that I'm a terribly huge fan of either, but I'd gladly trade you any (or all) of the Hot Topic top ten for just one of them: http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Music/TopTen.jsp .)

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 May 2010 08:46 (fifteen years ago)

(actually, strike that... I'll keep Deftones.)

this album has leaked and kiss some major ass, is one of the best records so far this year!

Bee OK, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:35 (fifteen years ago)

lol these threads

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:35 (fifteen years ago)

anyway i dig the hell out of that song that pfork posted today, prob will give this a listen

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:36 (fifteen years ago)

kiss should be kicks obviously

lol at myself.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:43 (fifteen years ago)

this is really good. i dig dude's voice and the production.

oscar, Saturday, 29 May 2010 00:51 (fifteen years ago)

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14279-innerspeaker/

Pitchfork got it right BEST NEW MUSIC with a score of 8.5

ILM is kind of sleeping on this record but i feel is one of the best from this year. definitely worth a listen.

will be buying when it comes out in the States on June 8.

Bee OK, Saturday, 29 May 2010 04:03 (fifteen years ago)

it's a great album. one of my favorites of the year. kind of like a more singles-minded dungen with vocals in english

kamerad, Saturday, 29 May 2010 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

Sounds pretty worthy...

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 29 May 2010 04:29 (fifteen years ago)

I'm still pretty lukewarm on this record, but I hope it's successful because Modular really needs a hit right about now.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 29 May 2010 04:31 (fifteen years ago)

Rly? The second NYPC is the only thing I can think of they've done in the last few years that has been an actual flop, everything else has either been a strong hit or had as much attention as you'd expect - hits for Ladyhawke, Presets, Cut Copy, might be lesser sales on the second Wolfmother but they're getting huge supports, radio and syncs, decent radio and touring for the first Tame Impala and the Jonathan Boulet solo... maybe the KIM comp got overpressed on Presets expectations, but they didn't try and sell it as a Presets followup

Señor Communications Adviser (sic), Saturday, 29 May 2010 08:41 (fifteen years ago)

wait, I just looked up the NYPC and it wasn't even on Modular! have Liberator ever had a hit? [check discogs... no.]

Señor Communications Adviser (sic), Saturday, 29 May 2010 08:44 (fifteen years ago)

I thought I read about six months ago that they were in some pretty big financial straits (can't remember where, though). I thought it was odd considering how many good/popular albums have the imprint on them, but it can happen to the best of them.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 29 May 2010 08:44 (fifteen years ago)

it's a Pav company, that's just par for the course. this one's lasted 12 years without bankruptcy and only one corporate takeover, that's four times longer than any has before. I assume the fact that they're essentially an A&R department for Universal keeps them protected from the usual overreaching, though.

Señor Communications Adviser (sic), Saturday, 29 May 2010 09:21 (fifteen years ago)

this band is so gooood:

Bee I agree they're great but you're starting to look suspiciously related to the band.

Moka, Sunday, 30 May 2010 08:36 (fifteen years ago)

i actually like the songs i've heard.

do you think we could keep stuff like this to Rolling Indie? unless it's about a record by a band like Animal Collective or something where there's gonna be a lot of discussion, i think it makes more sense to consolidate all of this stuff into one place, no?

ksh, Sunday, 30 May 2010 15:12 (fifteen years ago)

no.

ksh, Monday, 31 May 2010 00:28 (fifteen years ago)

some of these threads work and some don't. this is a great debut and thought that it definitely deserved its own thread. last year i would have thought that The XX should have been in the rolling indie thread but then that album really took off. you just never know.

Bee OK, Monday, 31 May 2010 04:22 (fifteen years ago)

Bee I agree they're great but you're starting to look suspiciously related to the band.

lol, yeah i need to calm down some about them. if they are hiring though i would be able to help out :-)

Bee OK, Monday, 31 May 2010 04:24 (fifteen years ago)

listened to a song or two of theirs earlier today, and it sounded pretty good!

ksh, Monday, 31 May 2010 04:40 (fifteen years ago)

that being said, i'm not sure we'll be talking about them two weeks from now, but that's how it seems to go for all bands now. The National? Broken Social Scene? LCD Soundsystem? Sleigh Bells? the scene's already on to new things!

ksh, Monday, 31 May 2010 04:41 (fifteen years ago)

not that we'll never talk about this band or any of those bands ever again -- we probably will -- but you get, like, a week or two in the spotlight, and unless you released a record people really want to keep talking about, you're probably going to disappear off the map, or at least fade from it, pretty quickly

ksh, Monday, 31 May 2010 04:43 (fifteen years ago)

i don't think anyone's talked about Vashti Bunyan since 2005, for example \(O_o)/

ksh, Monday, 31 May 2010 04:43 (fifteen years ago)

i'm really, really struggling to understand what point you're trying to make.

lemon lime & butters (electricsound), Monday, 31 May 2010 04:45 (fifteen years ago)

with what?

ksh, Monday, 31 May 2010 04:46 (fifteen years ago)

tbh, just now i was more or less rambling

ksh, Monday, 31 May 2010 04:47 (fifteen years ago)

"psychedelic" c'mon stop it

Always-Smells-Like-Maple Man (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 31 May 2010 05:30 (fifteen years ago)

His point is quite simple. You see,you decide you want to make a record people will keep talking about, then you do, then you send memos out to fans, allowing them to start a unique thread about you, rather than post on the rolling ones. If you decide to make the contrary, you may only appear in threads about indie on one fan's post that nobody will acknowledge or read. You will then fade away.

Evan, Monday, 31 May 2010 05:58 (fifteen years ago)

laughing a lot irl, thanking you

ksh, Monday, 31 May 2010 05:59 (fifteen years ago)

it is certainly my strong preference that heavily marketed records not be discussed on rolling indie

lemon lime & butters (electricsound), Monday, 31 May 2010 06:04 (fifteen years ago)

It's a great album cover.

Fetchboy, Monday, 31 May 2010 06:10 (fifteen years ago)

i don't think anyone's talked about Vashti Bunyan since 2005, for example \(O_o)/

Can we please not compare Vashti Bunyan to Tame Impala? k thx.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Monday, 31 May 2010 06:29 (fifteen years ago)

Vashti's released a pair of timeless albums some ~35 years apart. That's enough for me.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Monday, 31 May 2010 06:29 (fifteen years ago)

wasn't comparing the two. i do love Lookaftering, though

ksh, Monday, 31 May 2010 07:03 (fifteen years ago)

great record.

sounds like a combination between Dungen and Sloan and kinda points directly to my tastes in music.

Zeno, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 20:20 (fifteen years ago)

that's an OK comparison, actually.

really enjoying this too.

Millsner, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 22:25 (fifteen years ago)

this album currently cost $41.49 on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Innerspeaker-Tame-Impala/dp/B003HGKJH8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1275632009&sr=8-1

i think it will be cheaper when i comes out in America on June 8.

Shin Oliva Suzuki, Friday, 4 June 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

~3 minutes into "The Bold Arrow of Time" i thought they were gonna bust into a rendition of Lenny Kravitz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way?"

ksh, Sunday, 6 June 2010 05:41 (fifteen years ago)

i heard one song "desire be desire go" and it's pretty fucking awesome

total lennon + dungen which is pretty dope + maybe a lil more psyching out

For Nick Lachey, Forever Ago (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 01:42 (fifteen years ago)

So this is supposed to be out now in the U.S. ...so why isn't it available anywhere (physically)? Why isn't Modular's website particularly helpful? :(

Evan, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 04:12 (fifteen years ago)

The lack of info anywhere is surprising and frustrating.

Evan, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 04:16 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah this is pretty sweet and a weird record to go in at number 4 in any country's main album charts.

Jamie_ATP, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 15:25 (fifteen years ago)

listening to the whole thing and it sounds good even via a myspace stream. what a cool record!

For Nick Lachey, Forever Ago (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 15:45 (fifteen years ago)

Soooooooo does anybody know anything about its availability in the U.S.??????????

Evan, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 15:59 (fifteen years ago)

Was supposed to be out yesterday??? But...

Evan, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 16:00 (fifteen years ago)

after few listens, i'm downgrading a bit:
still very good record, but something like 4-5 songs aren't so good and suffers from insecurity of thr "first release syndrome".
i think they need to mature a little.

Zeno, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 16:09 (fifteen years ago)

very strange indeed, can't find any info either other than it is suppose to be out.

"cinema"/"leave it" rules. don't hear anything remotely like that on inner speaker. sounds like dungen to me

Giving this a spin now just so I can say I hate it from an informed perspective. Super surprised no one's mentioned that the singer sounds a little like John Lennon.

Elvis Telecom, Monday, 28 June 2010 22:59 (fifteen years ago)

They namedrop Frank Zappa's 'Peaches en regalia' on that pitchfork feature upthread and I've got to say it is a spot on influence on their trademark sound and that of other similar sounding bands like Dungen. I do not know why I never noticed before.

good live show, more competent than particularly great. could be a great live show with just a few changes:
1) play louder. a lot louder.
2) don't front-load the set so much
3) learn how to wig out properly a.s.a.p.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 23 November 2010 05:19 (fourteen years ago)

This album would be great... if it had come out in 2005. As it is I feel like I've burnt out on Dungen-style stuff since then, and this doesn't seem to be as exciting as that, so I feel a bit meh about it.

I still really like these guys, I get the Dungen comparions but I feel like this stuff works because Dungen has moved further away from the psych-rock thing and more into a psych-jazz sort of thing on recent albums. This sort of like picks up the slack of circa 2005 Dungen a little.
