I say 2002 was the best pop year of the decade. Others, including Some Dude and the Reverend here, plump for 2003. So let's begin with the shortest slate of these so far--only 13.

t.A.T.u. over Wayne Wonder, but I imagine this will be 50 all the way, with a good showing for "B R Right" (which I don't know).

sveltko (k3vin k.), Friday, 14 May 2010 01:23 (fifteen years ago)

no challops or vote swinging in voting for "no letting go" -- one of the top 20 or so songs of the decade easy

contl;drizer (J0rdan S.), Friday, 14 May 2010 01:40 (fifteen years ago)

"in da club" is actually my 3rd favorite here behind "b r right"

contl;drizer (J0rdan S.), Friday, 14 May 2010 01:41 (fifteen years ago)

No challops taken! It's a pretty significant single.

Mexico, camp, horns, Zappa, Mr. Bungle (Matos W.K.), Friday, 14 May 2010 01:42 (fifteen years ago)

I'd never heard "No Letting Go" until five minutes ago, and, yeah, it's terrific.

t.A.T.u., Wayne Wonder, and 50 are all brilliant and wonderful. "All the Things She Said" is my fav tho.

Cuuuuurtis, yeah, but Wayne Wonder is close. The Trina & JC songs are pretty good, too.

'in da club' was a significant moment in my life

The Reverend, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 01:16 (fifteen years ago)

you mean your birthday?

couldn't think of anything to write instead of 'steendriver' (some dude), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 01:17 (fifteen years ago)

it just kinda happenned too, like one night everyone went to sleep and then they showed up at school knowing the lyrics to 'in da club' the next day

what a horribly formed "groke" (samosa gibreel), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 01:25 (fifteen years ago)

^^^^ that is true, it kinda scared me in fact

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 07:54 (fifteen years ago)

haa yeah

Police Cool. (crüt), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 08:06 (fifteen years ago)

tbh I have never really gotten that into "In Da Club" but it's still the best thing on this list

Police Cool. (crüt), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 08:07 (fifteen years ago)

I am and have always been indifferent to "In Da Club," hate the way Aftermath beats sound so expensive and yet at the same time so cheap. definitely the BIGGEST thing on the list but I'd say "No Letting Go" or "B R Right" is the best.

Anyone not voting "No Letting Go" does not understand that the Diwali riddim is the best beat created in the past 10 years, just nudging out "Grindin'".

now that you say that, weird to see that WW is the first manifestation of it to chart, cause it seems like it didn't hit here until after "Get Busy" & Lumidee

The Reverend, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 15:18 (fifteen years ago)

nah Lumidee was definitely the last of those 3 to break

couldn't think of anything to write instead of 'steendriver' (some dude), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 15:33 (fifteen years ago)

here = the nw

The Reverend, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 15:35 (fifteen years ago)

objectively speaking 'br right' remains outstanding, but has nowhere near the lasting contextual sentiment of the wayne wonder.

never got the big dealio with the tatu song. nasty confection of proto crepe-crit and 80s pop trainspotter forelock-tugging.

no one ever wants to hear the 50 again so why vote for it.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 16:08 (fifteen years ago)

I still think it's kind of funny that someone took a spam message and turned it into a pop group, but of all of the t.A.T.u. singles their big one is my least favorite; now if this was "All About Us" I would have a harder decision to make.

So hard not to image spam with bad tATu fan art here. Guys, seriously, it is needed that my whole superego twist my arm with max force on this one.

frozen cookie (Abbott), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 16:22 (fifteen years ago)

Of all the pre-class banter I've had with my students, the worst time *by far* was a few weeks ago, when I started reminiscing about "200 km/hour in the Wrong Lane." Everyone looked kind of scared by the time I was done.

frozen cookie (Abbott), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 16:28 (fifteen years ago)

"all the things she said", then "In da club".
