How busy will this thread be in 2010? Hopefully very busy.

Not feeling the fake rocks tbh.

So "All The Lovers" just made its debut on Radio One, and the nice people at the record label were kind enough to share the entire track (Moyles-free!) on Youtube. Why they're doing it a full six weeks before the single is commercially available, I dunno. It took me less than 5 minutes to extract it and make my own mp3, but whatevs... labels will be labels.

Anyway, here's the track. Those high synths during the chorus and again during the instrumental break near the end KILL IT DEAD!

if this was 2003, we'd have a mashup with OX4 in t-10 and counting.

tomofthenest, Friday, 14 May 2010 10:01 (fifteen years ago)

love love love this.

mark e, Friday, 14 May 2010 10:28 (fifteen years ago)

This should be great. She's been on a hot streak since the late '90s.

Is that her on the cover?

"KILL IT DEAD!" meaning "bad" or "KILL IT DEAD!" meaning "good"?

kkvgz, Friday, 14 May 2010 14:42 (fifteen years ago)

Meaning "good." I probably should've said kill me dead. When it explodes into that part around 2:30, it's made of win!

Johnny Fever, Friday, 14 May 2010 14:44 (fifteen years ago)

haha yeah i thought kill it dead was a bad thing

just sayin, Friday, 14 May 2010 14:46 (fifteen years ago)

It's like adult-alternative Eurodance.

skip, Friday, 14 May 2010 14:48 (fifteen years ago)

Not too crazy about it. The melody reminds me of "The Promise" (When In Rome, not Girls Aloud) which I never really liked in the first place. I'm also kind of disappointed they decided not to include any Xenomania songs on the album.

^this. ugh i am not feelin this track

johnny crunch, Friday, 14 May 2010 22:24 (fifteen years ago)

the chorus kinda seems like the weak link in the track to me. i do love the verses despite their slight cheesiness, though, as well as that instrumental break. in any case it's the most interesting thing kylie's done in quite a while, imo

teledyldonix, Friday, 14 May 2010 22:49 (fifteen years ago)

Love the single. As long as she keeps to the electro sound and doesn't try anything like that ill-advised first single off her previous album.

2 Hearts? I loved that track!

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 15 May 2010 01:15 (fifteen years ago)

Sounds like eurovision twaddle to me.

about 2 hearts that is. New single is dope.

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 7 June 2010 08:56 (fifteen years ago)

Heard a clip today of another really good track from the album, Cupid Boy. So far, Aphrodite is 2-for-2.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 7 June 2010 09:07 (fifteen years ago)

"2 Hearts" was incredible. As was her "electro sound," as Geir so eloquently puts it.

mark e, Friday, 25 June 2010 13:48 (fifteen years ago)

Haha. I wonder if she even owns normal clothes.

Two times through the album, btw, and I'm thinking it's the sequel to Kylie that some people have been waiting for since 2001. I happen to have liked the albums in the interim, but more of this is good too.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 25 June 2010 14:03 (fifteen years ago)

people i trust are telling me i will love this album.
friendships are on the line here.
but given i loved 'X', i think its a safe bet ..

mark e, Friday, 25 June 2010 14:06 (fifteen years ago)

The only Kylie album I've heard in full was X, which I loved. Looking forward to giving this a spin.

how has this album and its singles done in the charts? i get the impression it was a total flop, sadly.

NI, Monday, 22 November 2010 10:07 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, it does seem to have sunk without a trace. Mystifying considering she's well on her game for the first time in about 10 years.

Friday: vuvuzela club meeting (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 22 November 2010 10:09 (fourteen years ago)

Get Outta My Way and Put Your Hands Up are pretty awesome but I think I'd be embarrassed to play them around most of my friends.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 17 November 2013 22:34 (eleven years ago)

Yes! That is maybe my favorite song on the album.

Geoffrey Schweppes (jaymc), Monday, 18 November 2013 00:26 (eleven years ago)

Holy shit, I'd forgotten how much that song provided something for Daft Punk to borrow from for "Get Lucky".

Johnny Fever, Monday, 18 November 2013 00:30 (eleven years ago)

that is some flagrantly silly influence-projecting

some dude, Monday, 18 November 2013 00:58 (eleven years ago)

yeah i don't hear that at all

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 18 November 2013 01:00 (eleven years ago)

Are we not listening to the same song?

Skateboard P's whole chorus melody in Get Lucky is ripped right from the main synth theme of Can't Beat the Feeling, and the way the bass notes play off that melody is exactly the same. But whatever.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 18 November 2013 01:03 (eleven years ago)

randomly heard 'the one' off x today & felt similar pangs of massive appreciation

johnny crunch, Monday, 18 November 2013 01:09 (eleven years ago)

Skateboard P's whole chorus melody in Get Lucky is ripped right from the main synth theme of Can't Beat the Feeling, and the way the bass notes play off that melody is exactly the same. But whatever.

I hear what you're talking about: the seven notes of "We've come too far to give up" echo a main part of the "Can't Beat the Feeling" synth hook. But the lines resolve differently. And "Get Lucky" is a bit slower, besides. Actually, where "Can't Beat the Feeling" reminds me more of Daft Punk is in the actual tone of that synth, which feels very Discovery-ish.

Geoffrey Schweppes (jaymc), Monday, 18 November 2013 01:25 (eleven years ago)

But the lines resolve differently.

The final two notes. Everything else is identical. I feel like anyone who would deny it probably also bought Vanilla Ice's argument about the bassline of "Ice Ice Baby".

Johnny Fever, Monday, 18 November 2013 01:59 (eleven years ago)

sorry I don't hear it at all!

the objections to Drake from non-REAL HIPHOP people (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 18 November 2013 02:24 (eleven years ago)

Ice sampled a song that had been a huge hit for over a decade. a synth melody from a recent album cut, transposed to a vocal line and modified in a significant way... even if i was certain the authors of "Get Lucky" had heard that song, i'd say changing that much is less 'borrowing' than just 'songwriting.'

some dude, Monday, 18 November 2013 02:48 (eleven years ago)

plus both acts are mining a shared area of homage/nostalgia, i wouldn't be surprised if one of ilm's disco experts could point to one or several old songs that use similar melodies, it feels like very 'stock ascending disco riff.'

some dude, Monday, 18 November 2013 02:50 (eleven years ago)

To be clear, I'm not accusing the robots of deliberate theft of the theme. It had just been driving me nuts since I first heard "Get Lucky" where I'd heard that theme before, because I was certain I had—and thanks to this thread I was able to pinpoint it.

Still, though, I can't believe some of y'all don't hear it as well. It's exactly the same minus the final two notes.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 18 November 2013 02:52 (eleven years ago)

i hear it. i just think there are only so many notes, coincidences of this kind are very plausible to me.

Oh right, I wasn't saying anybody stole anything from anyone else. Just that this melody seems to be zeitgesiting in my own sphere the last couple days.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 18 November 2013 16:33 (eleven years ago)

I was just fishing around on Spotify after listening to the new Kris Menace album last night to see what else he's done recently and this song dropped in my lap. Very timely!
