i'm still not sure which one i'm picking -- i'm gonna vote "still tippin" #1 in my 05-09 ballot, but "what we do" is obv a classic on the same level

i remember seeing "Still Tippin" on BET Uncut for like a year before Jones got signed and it became a mainstream hit, all that time I knew a lot of people that were into underground Houston shit and still think that song is kinda boring and unremarkable compared to a lot of stuff out of that scene at the time. i think if Dr. Teeth hadn't made such a good video for it back when it was just a regional record we wouldn't be talking about it today.

i really disagree with that -- i mean it's certainly more indicative of how good texas rap was/is than a huge standout album but so many parts of that song are so sick -- the violin sample, slim thug's whole fucking verse (he should've just retired after)

also i thought this was a pretty obvious pairing! not obvious but like, the tenuous connections i drew sort of made sense for an arbitrary poll

maybe a better poll would've been still tippin original vs still tippin single version

for the record i like the single version better -- it's weird that both songs have totally different moods -- the original version is cool on some top-down summer jam funk shit, but i love how the single version is more drive slow, menacing & foreboding

xxp to myself -- this was kinda echoed in the video with it being shot on an overcast day -- you have slim thug's army of cars slowly swerving down the street under this gray sky all villain like -- it's very archetypal in a way that i think is incredibly dope, intentional or not

wonder where "the chick giving road head to slim thug" ranks on the all time list of video ho displays during the BET uncut era? certainly behind the "girl who gets her ass crack swiped by a credit card" in the tip drill video and "completely naked treadmill user" in that one 504 boyz video
