I'm torn between "Cool" (Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" years later and on 'ludes) and "Shake It Off."

i nominated "yo" in the ilx poll & i'm voting that -- something about that song makes my heart flutter

2 shake it off (such a cool beat)
3 heard me say

i don't remember "cool" or "how could you"

Please no one vote "Jesus Take The Wheel." It's such a bad song!

between "cool" and "yo" for me. "how could you" is only notable for its use of the phrase "ghetto kama sutra". "heard em say" was kanye's weakest single to date.

For a short list this is really strong for me, "Shake It Off" and "Yo" are both classics and I like "Cool" and "Heard 'Em Say" a lot. Only really dislike the 50.

"yo" - a classic and one of the few brown songs i like

obviously cool wins.

lol @ jesus take the wheel. it has a paradoxically camp appeal to it imo.

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 20:20 (fifteen years ago)

"cool" is so gorgeous.

nevermind312, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 20:25 (fifteen years ago)

It's really a moving song to me, really the only Stefani solo single I love or even like. I felt bad that I'd almost forgotten it existed to the point that when I was putting this poll together at first I remembered the follow-up to "Hollaback Girl" as being "Luxurious."

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Clearly Jesus did not take the wheel in this poll.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 23:03 (fifteen years ago)

damn, missed this poll - would've been between "cool", which is as great as everyone's said, and "shake it off" - an entire girl group of mariahs!

"cool" fans who don't much like gwen's other big singles, have you heard "the real thing" (off the first album) and "early winter" (off the second)? v much in the same vein, i def think she's at her best when doing these new wavey yearning ballads.

actually really like "yo (excuse me miss)" but, you know, cbreezy. that said the black chiney reggae mix is u&k:

never heard "The Real Thing," but "Early Winter" was a single and I didn't care for it at all.

every night i tell myself i am the custos, i am the wind. (some dude), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 13:02 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, it def struck me as sub-"Cool" as that type of Gwen thing goes

I would have voted for "Jesus Take The Wheel" over any of these

I can't even begin to imagine the many different nightmares induced by listening to Carrie Underwood while on hallucinogenics. The mere thought makes me want to scratch off my skin.

ps, I don't like Carrie Underpitch, er Underwood
