Srsly, is it no longer a problem? It seemed like a big one there for a while.

thirdalternative, Monday, 24 May 2010 17:47 (fifteen years ago)

Don Quijote died, so there was nobody to fight rockism anymore.

Rock 'n' Roll is dead. Long live Rock!

We've all made some jokes here, but there's nothing funny about Rockism...

Darin, Monday, 24 May 2010 17:50 (fifteen years ago)

So-called "rockism" has never been a problem. R&B-ism is a problem at ILM though.

Rockism being the stupidest word ever didn't hurt either.

kkvgz, Monday, 24 May 2010 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

"Rockism" is a term that was invented in the 80s, and it did make sense then, because a lot of actually legit music, made by legit musicians who wrote their own tunes and had their own sound and style, was still being rejected by critics because of its use of synths as the main instrument.

As soon as a new generation of writers, acknowledging the greatness of albums such as "Rio", "Lexicon Of Love", "Tin Drum" and "Dare", started writing, "rockism" was no longer a problem. Other than for people who want to create some kind of pointless conflict between "white" and "black" music.

i'd say "never change" but i know you never will

"rockism" is still a very, very, very, very, very -- very -- big problem.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 24 May 2010 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

i'm sorry we weren't able to solve this problem, and now the burden falls on a new generation.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 24 May 2010 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

NO DON'T

Marni and Louboutin: coming to Tuesdays this fall on FOX (HI DERE), Monday, 24 May 2010 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

R&B-ism is the idea that, after sometime between 1980 and 1990, all music that isn't largely rhythm based and has a very obvious empasis on melody is old-fashioned and obsolete and should not be payed any kind of attention to at all.

(Probably more related to ageism than opposite racism, considering most of the ones who have this weird idea are white people)

In December 2009, Stevens confirmed plans to release new material. She stated, "It's very early stages at the moment, but I'm going into the studio in the New Year ... all very exciting! I'll keep you all posted with what's going on."[18]

Rockism still kills a child in Africa every three minutes. Only by supplying synthesisers and dance beats to Somalia can we end the suffering.
