I do think this ^^^ is a bit of an odd thing to say when it could be equally levelled at many other animal tropes, but hey, I'm a sucker for this sort of list.

Well, just because there is a bear named Bungle (who apparently is not in a band, nor is he a solo singer or an instrumentalist) doesn't mean the band Mr. Bungle was named after him.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 May 2010 08:36 (fifteen years ago)

Well the band were named after a puppet in a PIF, who wasn't a bear. But I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make joeks.

Kilgore Trout were great, wd dearly love to hear some of their stuff again.

Not long ago I found myself with an urge to hear "Gas Electric" by Coping Saw again, and I found that Chris Trout has a website with a music player on which streams a bunch of stuff from all his bands (I think). So, you could try there.

http://misterchristrout.com/ or http://misterchristrout.com/kilgore-trout/ for a direct link to the Kilgore Trout page.

Think I bought a single by B.E.A.R. on otherwise indie-tastic label Where It's At Is Where You Are thinking it was Chris Trout's Bear, except it was some bedroom electronic stuff which thankfully I thought was pretty good at the time.

hey, sorry to break up all the beary puns, and i know there's not gonna be a definitive answer, because sexual orientation doesn't necessarily lead to particular music choices, but what kinda music do bears listen to? i live in the bear neighborhood of SF and see all the clubs around and wonder if it's like punk, metal, cock-rock, like their look might imply, or if it's more stereotypical 'gay' music. cheesy dance, top 40, etc? a lot of the dudes are older so that might play into it?

jaxon, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 06:08 (fifteen years ago)

all the bears i know unfortunately like yr typical dancing queen stuff however i once bumped into a friend whilst i was carrying a rainbow live dvd and he told me how much he liked ritchie blackmore in the 70s, what happened?!

in my mind they sit around the campfire listening to CCR or bob seger

kumar the bavarian, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 06:16 (fifteen years ago)

I have a couple of bear friends -- one listens to country and top 40, the other listens to indie rock. (Probably not helpful.)

breaking that little dog's heart chakra (Abbott), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 16:03 (fifteen years ago)

One bear bar I used to go to played as much rock as they did pop dance music (but not club music, thank god), but it depended on who was spinning. Another place was usually playing low key dance music (not that anything that was going on could be called dancing).

Then again, back in the '90s an editor at Bear Magazine and I traded cassettes of West Coast post-minimalist Daniel Lentz. I think we both hated "gay" music.

Hideous Lump, Thursday, 27 May 2010 01:05 (fifteen years ago)
