In a great mood, got a new job and will start tomorrow (thank God because my baseball team was driving me crazy). Anyways, I wanted to hear something airy and saw that this album has never been polled on ILM.

This album reminds me of good times. Although I bought it in fall '99, a year after its release, it took nearly that long for it to make an impact in my little group. It played at a lot of parties. "Kelly Watch The Stars!" I listen to most fondly.

vive la femme d'argent

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 00:07 (fifteen years ago)

For some reason, I am not ready to revisit this yet.

PappaWheelie V, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 00:19 (fifteen years ago)

This album is much, much better than I usually think it is. But it's also not nearly as good as it is while I'm listening to it. If that makes sense.

Much as one should consider ALL the tracks (because they're all at least good), the only answer here is La Femme D'Argent, by quite a fair margin. Much as I'm really tempted to throw a vote at Talisman or Le Voyage De Penelope...nah.

Oh yeah...the instrumentals are better than the sung tracks on this record. THAT's my big challop.

acoleuthic, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 00:37 (fifteen years ago)

"Ce Matin-Là"--in The Virgin Suicides, I believe.

clemenza, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 00:41 (fifteen years ago)

is that song really from the movie? i knew it sounded familiar (like in a commercial or something) but is not on the OST album.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 03:17 (fifteen years ago)

so otm. That's how I feel about Air generally, which is why I can't imagine friends (and I've plenty) who anticipate their albums.

How in God's name is this not "La Femme D'Argent"?

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 03:21 (fifteen years ago)

Talkie Walkie is unambiguously fantastic, though.

Marni and Louboutin: coming to Tuesdays this fall on FOX (HI DERE), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 03:27 (fifteen years ago)

I haven't seen The Virgin Suicides in a while, but yes, I'm pretty sure "Ce Matin-Là"'s in there. I think it might be the dream-sequence where Lux and her sisters are in a field sort of frollicking.

clemenza, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 03:39 (fifteen years ago)

'you make it easy', maybe

iatee, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 03:41 (fifteen years ago)

'Remember' for me - in my head it's a soundtrack to an incredibly wacky episode of Sesame Street that never was.

Moka, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 05:09 (fifteen years ago)

'Ce matin la' comes second pretty close though.

Moka, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 05:10 (fifteen years ago)

Ha! This is secretly a Giants thread after all!

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 05:41 (fifteen years ago)

SF Giant is an anagram of Fasting... therefore I choose "All I Need"

"You Make It Easy"

groovemaaan, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 09:23 (fifteen years ago)

"Sexy Boy" is head and shoulders the best track on here. The album as a coherent whole is maybe better than "SB" as a track but if you pull one song out it has to be "Sexy Boy", the middle 8 and the solo after it are on another plain to the rest of this record.

every time i pull a j/k off the shelf (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 09:27 (fifteen years ago)

I have good memories of this, but looking back, it's quite front-loaded.

wish I'd have caught these guys at the Bassin de Neptune at Versailles a few years ago; what a venue!

Euler, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 15:20 (fifteen years ago)

I went with You Make It Easy, a sentimental fave...

ColinO, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 17:18 (fifteen years ago)

"sexy boy" might be the only song I don't LOVE.

I voted "remember"

nicky lo-fi, Wednesday, 26 May 2010 17:28 (fifteen years ago)

yeah sexy boy is the only one i'll skip.
voted New Star in the Sky cause i r stoner.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 26 May 2010 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

this is absolutely "sexy boy" for me

lol at the baseball comments.

Great album but "Sexy Boy" by a mile.

the subject of many men’s thoughts (daavid), Thursday, 27 May 2010 02:54 (fifteen years ago)

ecuador with a c, that session/live vid is A+++ except for them finishing before the moog solo (ie. the best bit of the entire song), which is an act of truly disgusting savagery imo.

Bill A, Thursday, 27 May 2010 11:23 (fifteen years ago)

Still my least favourite Air album. Voted for "Kelly Watch The Stars" though.

le voyage de pénélope

PaulTMA, Thursday, 27 May 2010 15:41 (fifteen years ago)

I never really got that into this as a whole album, but Kelly Watch The Stars is yoga flame for all time etc, loved the song, loved the video, loved the fast rocked-up live version they would do around then

atoms breaking heart (a passing spacecadet), Thursday, 27 May 2010 15:43 (fifteen years ago)

Voting "Kelly" as well.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 27 May 2010 15:55 (fifteen years ago)

La Femme d'Argent (English: The Money Woman)

Um, that's a very literal translation... I don't claim to be a fluent Francophone, but I think that in the vernacular, it means "The Gold-Digger". Anyway, the track gets my vote. Sheer heaven.
And Bill A is right - leaving out the Minimoog solo from the soi-disant live version above was a crime against humanity.

Vast Halo, Thursday, 27 May 2010 18:27 (fifteen years ago)

whoa i thought it meant something like "the saleslady" or something equally tame...

_▂▅▇█▓▒░◕‿‿◕░▒▓█▇▅▂_ (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 27 May 2010 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

Haven't listened to this in aeons (a little surprised it's as late as 1998) - 'All I Need' seems like the obvious pick to me at least.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 27 May 2010 19:40 (fifteen years ago)

lyrics are terrible but easy to screen out, but yeah i think 'all i need' too. love the second half in partic, even if it is stolen from another air record.

English: The Money Woman (history mayne), Friday, 28 May 2010 13:57 (fifteen years ago)

'les professionels' >>>>> 'all i need'

some men enjoy the feeling of being owned (acoleuthic), Friday, 28 May 2010 14:01 (fifteen years ago)

La Femme D'Argent is quintessential Air to me, closest to what I liked about early singles like Casanova 70, Modular, Le Soleil est Pres de Moi, etc. I like the pop stuff just fine but this is where I think they introduced a whole new vocabulary to downtempo instrumental music.

Haunted Clocks For Sale (Dorianlynskey), Friday, 28 May 2010 14:15 (fifteen years ago)

ended up voting for "All I Need."

if "Sexy Boy" doesn't win it will be strange because reading this thread makes me wonder if it will end up on top.

Bee OK, Saturday, 29 May 2010 02:18 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Saturday, 29 May 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

i really like this record, though it falls just short of "talkie-walkie" or even their "premiers symptomes" EP.

i voted for "all i need." that woozy kinda-melancholy vibe is what they do best (my other fave air song: "le soleil est pres de moi").

Aspergers Makes My Pee Smell Funny (Eisbaer), Saturday, 29 May 2010 23:09 (fifteen years ago)

besides, "kelly watch the stars" was more annoying to me than "sexy boy" -- though i heart both videos.

Aspergers Makes My Pee Smell Funny (Eisbaer), Saturday, 29 May 2010 23:15 (fifteen years ago)

Walkie Talkie made me forget that I actually hate "Sexy Boy"

Image: electrostimulation applied on a penis (HI DERE), Sunday, 30 May 2010 14:30 (fifteen years ago)

i think that i 1st heard "sexy boy" after it was all over the place, so i never got sick of it. dunno why some hate it so much.

Aspergers Makes My Pee Smell Funny (Eisbaer), Sunday, 30 May 2010 14:34 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know what it is about that song, it just gels in a manner that I find deeply irritating. I can't tell if it's because the beat is too soft, or the melody isn't pretty enough, or what it is, but it really, really, really grates on me and I never understood why people liked it.

I just listened to this album for the first time this week and... yeah. I am going to stick with WT; that is much more my type of thing.

Image: electrostimulation applied on a penis (HI DERE), Sunday, 30 May 2010 14:44 (fifteen years ago)

"la femme d'argent" could also mean "the silver woman" which is what i always assumed it meant.

classic album

Unchanging Window (Ross), Tuesday, 27 June 2017 05:50 (eight years ago)

when it came out i found it really eclectic, superficial and derivative. there is a strong seventies vibe in it if i remember well. i kind of liked it but have never revisited it.

I saw the original Moon Safari-era tour (Manchester Ritz) and according to Setlist fm they did at least 7 or 8 cuts from the album.

I am about to watch the Mike Mills-directed '98 dvd docu for the first time.

Zelda Zonk, Monday, 27 May 2024 12:27 (one year ago)

It was, of course, marvellous. No Beth but the new versions of her tracks sounded great even without her. I'd say a few songs could've been louder in the space somehow but this seemed to improve towards the end. For the supplementary songs after MS they did pretty much everything I hoped they would do and was pleasantly surprised about. I'd only previously seen them in 1998/9 and 2002 so was particularly thrilled and grateful to hear a few songs from Talkie Walkie live for the first time.

Vegyn revisits Air's Moon Safari from beginning to end.

In a daring crossover of genres and eras, British producer and electronic artist Joe Thornalley, known as Vegyn, reimagines Air's iconic 1998 debut album Moon Safari. Vegyn came to prominence thanks to his work with the likes of Frank Ocean and Travis Scott and has made a name for himself as a forward-thinking producer who blends lush, atmospheric soundscapes with experimental beats and a sense of unpredictability. By remixing Moon Safari, Vegyn brings his unique vision to the French duo's beloved ambient-pop masterpiece, infusing it with a fresh, contemporary energy.
