This album reminds me of good times. Although I bought it in fall '99, a year after its release, it took nearly that long for it to make an impact in my little group. It played at a lot of parties. "Kelly Watch The Stars!" I listen to most fondly.

For some reason, I am not ready to revisit this yet.

This album is much, much better than I usually think it is. But it's also not nearly as good as it is while I'm listening to it. If that makes sense.

Much as one should consider ALL the tracks (because they're all at least good), the only answer here is La Femme D'Argent, by quite a fair margin. Much as I'm really tempted to throw a vote at Talisman or Le Voyage De Penelope...nah.

Oh yeah...the instrumentals are better than the sung tracks on this record. THAT's my big challop.

"Ce Matin-Là"--in The Virgin Suicides, I believe.

is that song really from the movie? i knew it sounded familiar (like in a commercial or something) but is not on the OST album.

Talkie Walkie is unambiguously fantastic, though.

I haven't seen The Virgin Suicides in a while, but yes, I'm pretty sure "Ce Matin-Là"'s in there. I think it might be the dream-sequence where Lux and her sisters are in a field sort of frollicking.

'Remember' for me - in my head it's a soundtrack to an incredibly wacky episode of Sesame Street that never was.

'Ce matin la' comes second pretty close though.

"Sexy Boy" is head and shoulders the best track on here. The album as a coherent whole is maybe better than "SB" as a track but if you pull one song out it has to be "Sexy Boy", the middle 8 and the solo after it are on another plain to the rest of this record.

I have good memories of this, but looking back, it's quite front-loaded.

ecuador with a c, that session/live vid is A+++ except for them finishing before the moog solo (ie. the best bit of the entire song), which is an act of truly disgusting savagery imo.

I never really got that into this as a whole album, but Kelly Watch The Stars is yoga flame for all time etc, loved the song, loved the video, loved the fast rocked-up live version they would do around then

La Femme d'Argent (English: The Money Woman)

Um, that's a very literal translation... I don't claim to be a fluent Francophone, but I think that in the vernacular, it means "The Gold-Digger". Anyway, the track gets my vote. Sheer heaven.
And Bill A is right - leaving out the Minimoog solo from the soi-disant live version above was a crime against humanity.

Haven't listened to this in aeons (a little surprised it's as late as 1998) - 'All I Need' seems like the obvious pick to me at least.

lyrics are terrible but easy to screen out, but yeah i think 'all i need' too. love the second half in partic, even if it is stolen from another air record.

La Femme D'Argent is quintessential Air to me, closest to what I liked about early singles like Casanova 70, Modular, Le Soleil est Pres de Moi, etc. I like the pop stuff just fine but this is where I think they introduced a whole new vocabulary to downtempo instrumental music.

i really like this record, though it falls just short of "talkie-walkie" or even their "premiers symptomes" EP.

i voted for "all i need." that woozy kinda-melancholy vibe is what they do best (my other fave air song: "le soleil est pres de moi").

besides, "kelly watch the stars" was more annoying to me than "sexy boy" -- though i heart both videos.

i think that i 1st heard "sexy boy" after it was all over the place, so i never got sick of it. dunno why some hate it so much.

I don't know what it is about that song, it just gels in a manner that I find deeply irritating. I can't tell if it's because the beat is too soft, or the melody isn't pretty enough, or what it is, but it really, really, really grates on me and I never understood why people liked it.

I just listened to this album for the first time this week and... yeah. I am going to stick with WT; that is much more my type of thing.

"la femme d'argent" could also mean "the silver woman" which is what i always assumed it meant.

when it came out i found it really eclectic, superficial and derivative. there is a strong seventies vibe in it if i remember well. i kind of liked it but have never revisited it.

I saw the original Moon Safari-era tour (Manchester Ritz) and according to Setlist fm they did at least 7 or 8 cuts from the album.

Saw them do Moon Safari at the Sydney Opera House last night, they were superb. Perfect venue for them.

It was, of course, marvellous. No Beth but the new versions of her tracks sounded great even without her. I'd say a few songs could've been louder in the space somehow but this seemed to improve towards the end. For the supplementary songs after MS they did pretty much everything I hoped they would do and was pleasantly surprised about. I'd only previously seen them in 1998/9 and 2002 so was particularly thrilled and grateful to hear a few songs from Talkie Walkie live for the first time.
